Outlander’s Caitriona Balfe ‘still wrapping head around Claire’s actions’ after ‘difficult’ season 7b scenes

1 week ago 3

Outlander actress Caitriona Balfe has admitted she’s “still wrapping her head around Claire’s actions” as the Starz show enters the second part of season 7 this month.

Caitriona, who has played protagonist Claire Fraser for over a decade, has also admitted that scenes from the new episodes were some of her most “difficult to film”.

The actress’ behind-the-scenes insights come ahead of Outlander’s return in less than two weeks’ time.

Later this month, we will see Claire (Caitriona) and her husband Jamie Fraser (Sam Heughan) back in action for the epic fantasy show based on author Diana Gabaldon’s book series of the same name.

Speaking to TV Insider, Caitriona lifted the lid on the shocking decision made by her character in the second half of Outlander’s seventh season.

“It was honestly one of the most difficult episodes I filmed in a while,” she said. “[I’m still] wrapping my head around some of the stuff that came from the book that Claire does.”

While she would not spill any secrets about the scene in question, she added: “I think I made it believable.”

It comes after Executive Producer Maril Davis has warned viewers of an “emotional rollercoaster” up ahead.

Speaking at the Paley Center for Media earlier this week, she shared: “I mean this is such a rollercoaster. [Season] 7b is such a rollercoaster. I always say this every season - I feel like I say, ‘Buckle your seatbelts.’

“But this one in particular is an emotional rollercoaster, so I think people should prepare to be, kind of… wrung out.”

Outlander bosses have warned fans they are in for an 'emotional rollercoaster'

The recent trailer for season 7b shows Claire and Jamie being ripped apart once again, even suggesting Jamie has died, as Lord John Grey (David Berry) appears to break the terrible news to Claire that her husband is gone.

However, Claire is not convinced, defiantly replying: "I would feel it in my heart if it had stopped, mine would stop too."

Following the closure of Lionsgate+ in the UK, new episodes of Outlander will be available on Starz and to stream on Prime Video channel MGM+ from Sunday, November 22. You must be an Amazon Prime member before you can sign up for MGM+.
