During a flight to Spain, a woman was left surprised and confused by what the airline staff brought to her seat when she ordered an alcoholic beverage.
Donatela Voyvodova, 24, who is from Bulgaria, was on a Ryanair flight to Valencia, Spain, when she decided to order a spritz while on the journey.
"I am completely aware that Ryanair is [a] low-cost company and people should not expect much, but I thought it's so funny how this drink was a perfect example of bad advertising," she told Newsweek.
In a video posted to TikTok on October 12, Voyvodova shows a short clip of what the "Rosé Spritz" looks like on the digital Ryanair menu on her cell phone, which appears as a mixed cocktail in a wine glass with fruit inside. The video then cuts to the drink she actually received, which was a small bottle of rosé wine, a can of Sprite, and a plastic cup, allowing the passenger to mix the drink herself.
She shared the video with the text overlay, "Ryanair why are you like this?" with a series of laughing face emojis.
The video has so far been viewed over 470,000 times since it was posted and has been liked by over 5,500 TikTok users.
"It shows one picture of a fancy cocktail, and you are given 'DIY' cocktail," Voyvodova told Newsweek. "I stated laughing when I received it. I mean, it's the same drink, it's just the way it is presented it different."
Newsweek has contacted Ryanair for comment via email.
Ryanair is Europe's leading airline in terms of passenger numbers, according to Statista. The airline recorded a passenger count of 182 million in 2023 and is a popular budget option for people traveling between European airports.
The airline offers a number of in-flight food and drink options, including hot meals and a variety of alcoholic beverages such as beers, wines, and spirits.
