Late entertainer Paul O’Grady personally continues to earn a handsome sum. The Birkenhead-born star, who continued to work right up until his death, is thought to have earned around £63,000-a-week over the last 12 months.
Paul, who died “unexpectedly but peacefully” at his home in Kent on March 28, 2023, was best known for performing as his drag alter ego Lily Savage. During his glittering career, he also fronted his teatime programme, The Paul O’Grady Show and the beloved For The Love of Dogs.
New figures from his firm Buster Productions Ltd showed it paid £655,000 in Corporation Tax in the year to May, reports The Mirror. It’s understood the late comedian’s income for the 12 months was around an impressive £3.3million.
Paul founded Buster Productions in 2001 and named it after his charming rescue dog, Buster. The pooch was often seen alongside the TV favourite on his Channel 4 chat show before his death in 2009.
In the year to May 2022, Paul paid £341,525 in corporation tax, which indicates he was personally earning an eye-watering £1.7 million. In 2021, he gave just a little less to the taxman (£284,313).
Following the Blind Date personality’s death, his widow Andre Portasio has put their country home on the market for a jaw-dropping £3.5 million.
Paul initially purchased the Kent-based property in 1999 and continued to live within its walls up until his death, aged 67.
Earlier this year, the ballet dancer opened up about the day his husband died, telling The Mirror that he thought Paul was looking “very smart” and exuding a “good aura".
“I’ll never forget saying to him how handsome he looked, and him joking back saying: ‘F**k off’,” he continued, explaining that the pair walked their five dogs before settling down for the evening.
“He was on wonderful form and we switched on the telly to catch up on [the] news.”
Andre stated that Paul got up to make a cup of tea and that when he entered the kitchen he spotted his long-term partner lying on the floor.
“He had a cut on his forehead and I thought he was probably just unconscious… I called the ambulance and they said the best chance to keep him alive was to do CPR.”
Andre explained paramedics arrived on the scene and although they managed to get him breathing again it was “short-lived” and Paul was quickly pronounced dead.
