It was revealed yesterday that Zoe, 53, would be stepping down from her position as the host of the BBC Radio 2 Breakfast Show, with Scott, 51, stepping in as the new presenter.

During her morning show, Zoe told viewers: "After six years of fun times alongside you all on the breakfast show, I've decided it's time to step away from the early alarm call and start a new chapter.

"You know I think the world of you all, listeners, and it truly has been such a privilege to share the mornings with you, to go through life's little ups and downs, we got through the lockdown together, didn't we?

"We've shared a hell of a lot, the good times, the tough times, there's been a lot of laughter. And I am going to miss you cats."

Scott, who currently hosts the weekday afternoon program from 2 to 4 p.m., took to his show later that day to share additional details about Zoe's upcoming plans.

About Zoe's huge reveal, Scott also added: "If you missed Zoe this morning, she had some big news to share. Safe to say we’re going to miss her MASSIVELY in a morning, but she 100% deserves a lie in and, as you’ll have heard in the news, it’s been announced that I am taking over the Breakfast Show.

"WHAT?! This is a HUGE honour, to walk in the footsteps of Sir Terry, Chris Evans and Zoe. And when I started doing shows in my bedroom just for my mum when I was 8. Or joined hospital radio at 12. Or got my first proper radio show at the age of 16, you just never think that it would ever turn out like this.

"I’m thrilled. I’m overwhelmed by all the love. I still can’t QUITE believe it. And I hope you know I’ve LOVED being with you in the afternoon, it’s been 2 whole years! It’s gone so fast! I can’t thank you enough for how lovely you all were when I took over from Steve, and I know that you’re going to extend that love to Trevor Nelson, who’s going to be here with you 2-4pm every weekday from early next year.

"In fact, I’m going to give Trev a call in a minute. I want to congratulate him properly. And, of course, we need to ALSO say a huge congratulations to DJ Spoony who’s going to be bringing the Good Groove to Monday to Thursday nights at 10. I know he’s absolutely buzzing for this. Zoe’s last show is on the 20th December, and then I’ll be waking you up from January!"

Zoe plans to leave next month and cites wanting to "focus on family" as her reason but also expresses she's "really chuffed" for Scott.

"She simply wants to live differently, which means having more of a family life," an insider told Mail Online after Zoe herself said that she has had enough of the 4am wake-up calls after six years on the show.
