Raye confirmed her long-awaited second album will be delayed after all her songwriting books were stolen.

The critically-acclaimed singer - real name Rachel Keen - who made history when she won six gongs at the BRIT Awards earlier this year, took to Instagram to share snaps from her recent 27th birthday celebrations, and revealed she was the victim of a robbery. In the slideshow of photos, Raye can be seen holding up a birthday banner while in a swish apartment overlooking the ocean, and she shared photos of her presents - a pink customised Nintendo Switch - as well as a pink and red cake.

But it was her photo of a homemade loaf cake that stood out amongst the snaps, as the icing on top read: “SORRY UR CAR GOT STOLEN”. Raye confirmed that her car was stolen in the caption, as she apologised to her fans as the robbery meant there was no second album coming “any time soon”. She wrote: “It’s my birthday and my car got stolen with all my song writing books in the boot so no second album any time soon love you bye.”

Fans were devastated at the news, as they were eagerly awaiting a follow-up to Raye’s award-winning debut album My 21st Century Blues. “I’m starting my own investigation, we need that album,” one commented, as another added: “girl we need to get your car back i am fuming.” Others vowed to hunt down the stolen car, with one fan writing: “avengers assemble let’s find rayes car.”

“Baby girl! We’ll find that thief and save that holy bible of yours,” one promised, as another suggested: “Oh my god surely we can find it! Let the thieves know that there’s a secret spot that they can leave the books no questions asked… HAPPY BIRTHDAY.” Despite the unfortunate circumstances surrounding the singer’s birthday, her famous pals were on hand to send her well wishes, including Clara Amfo, singer Mabel, and Love Island star Indiyah Polack.

The Brit School graduate has been trying to crack the music industry for years, and was signed by Polydor Records in 2014. But after seven years, the label was refusing to release her debut album, prompting Raye to ask to be freed from her four-album contract. She was allowed to keep the songs she had written, and released her debut album My 21st Century Blues independently. And the singer is still very close to her family - her father works as her manager, and she works closely with her sister, who is also a musician.

“Music is in all our genes. Mum is the next one, she’s taking some of the workload with Dad. She’s worked in the NHS all her life so she is the next, hopefully in a year or two she will be able to join the team and it’ll be a full family empire,” she told F Word magazine in 2021.
