Reese Witherspoon clarifies her relationship with Kate Winslet after rumors of broken relationship

Reese Witherspoon has set the record straight on her relationship with Kate Winslet, seemingly putting an end to suggestions the two had a falling out.

It all started last week when Witherspoon spoke with People. In the interview, she talked about how an A-list actress had ended their friendship after she "roasted" the woman while giving her an award, saying, "Remember the time we got laser hair removal?"

Fans on the internet did some searching and came to the conclusion that the celebrity Witherspoon had a falling out with was Winslet.

However, she put those suggestions to bed while writing on her Instagram stories on Saturday.

"Hey guys...just spoke to my very dear friend for years, Kate W," Witherspoon wrote. "We laughed about this stupidity. Please do not believe the internet. We are good friends and have never had any falling out."

On the next slide she wrote, "This is completely UNTRUE...so silly!" over a headline talking about their alleged falling out.

Witherspoon and the relationship that ended

"It literally haunts me," Witherspoon told People last week in an interview with Will Ferrell.

"So this friend of mine, who I didn't really know that well but she was a very serious, proper actress, she asked me to give her an award. But I had never been to this award ceremony, so I thought it was like a roast. So I got up and I roasted her."

She noted how she got the tone of the event all wrong while saying jokes on stage.

"I was like, 'Remember the time we got laser hair removal?' " she recalled. "I'm still embarrassed about it.

"We're not friends anymore," Witherspoon shared. "I'm not even kidding - we're not friends anymore," she continued with a laugh. "I think she doesn't like me anymore. I thought it was so funny and it was just, I had the wrong audience. It was pretty bad. Yeah. Not even kidding, she doesn't talk to me anymore. Oh, well."

Fans on the internet claimed Winslet was the celebrity in question because they noted that Witherspoon presented her with the artist of the year award during the 2007 BAFTA Los Angeles Britannia Awards.

However, some have pointed out that Witherspoon and Winslet presented an award at the 2016 Oscars together without any signs of tension.
