When it comes to bedding stains, makeup mishaps are some of the most frustrating to tackle.
Even when someone thinks they have cleaned off all traces before bed, a smudge of foundation or mascara can end up on the sheets, often leaving a stubborn stain that’s tough to shift and say goodbye to.
Fortunately, Lottomart has shared an affordable and easy hack to restore the sheets to their former glory.
All people have to do is create a simple paste made from bicarbonate of soda and washing-up liquid, costing just pennies per use.
Lottomart said: “Makeup stains are often oil-based, which can bind to fabric. This DIY remedy uses everyday ingredients to gently break down the stain without harsh chemicals.”

They recommend a simple solution made from bicarbonate of soda and washing-up liquid. Bicarbonate of soda can be picked up for just 65p at Tesco or Asda, and washing-up liquid is available for as little as 50p.
To tackle the stain, start by dabbing the affected area with cold water. They emphasise that cold water is essential, as hot water can actually set makeup stains, making them harder to remove.
Next, Lottomart recommends mixing a tablespoon of bicarbonate of soda with a few drops of washing-up liquid in a small bowl.

This creates a thick, gritty paste that is perfect for gently lifting oils and pigments from the fabric.
Once the paste is ready, spread it onto the stained area and let it sit for about 10 to 15 minutes. This brief waiting period allows the bicarbonate of soda to absorb the oils in the stain while the washing-up liquid breaks down the pigments.
After allowing the paste to work its magic, rinse the bedding with cold water to remove the mixture. Finally, wash the bedding in the washing machine on a cool cycle using your usual detergent.
The mild abrasiveness of the bicarbonate of soda is key to its effectiveness, as it gently lifts the stain without damaging the fabric. Combined with washing-up liquid, this method is gentle yet powerful and can tackle a variety of makeup types.
Lottomart noted: “This remedy is perfect for anyone looking for an effective, affordable fix. You don’t need any special products – just items from your kitchen cupboard.”
For those tougher stains, Lottomart suggests applying a second layer of the paste before rinsing.
