Rod's not happy

Rod Stewart has announced he'll be focusing on more intimate tours from now on

The first act to feature in next year's Glastonbury has been announced.

Sir Rod Stewart is set to take to the iconic festival. He wrote on Instagram: "I’m absolutely thrilled to announce that I’ll be playing @glastofest 2025! After all these years, I’m proud and ready and more than able to take the stage again to pleasure and titillate my friends at Glastonbury in June. I’ll see you there!"

Fans quickly reacted to the huge announcement as they shared their excitement. As the likes quickly mounted, one user shared a simple emoji message, uploading images of a love heart and clapping hands.

Another added: "Going out on a HIGH in 2025," with a third insisting: "I'll be in the front row."

Rod Stewart is to play Glastonbury

The 79-year-old will perform in the Sunday afternoon “legends” slot at Worthy Farm after his appearance was announced by co-organiser Emily Eavis. He is known for hits including Maggie May, You Wear It Well and Sailing, accumulating 25 UK top 10 singles and 38 UK top 10 albums as a solo artist.

Sir Rod previously headlined the festival in 2002 alongside Coldplay and Stereophonics. Earlier this month he insisted that while he wasn't planning to retire, he was making a change to his performances.

After battling both prostate and thyroid cancer, he said he was choosing to end his large-scale world tours. Sharing a heartfelt - yet lighthearted - message on Instagram at the time, the Grammy winner announced: "This will be the end of large-scale world tours, but I have no desire to retire." He added: "I love what I do and I do what I love. I'm fit, I have a full head of hair and can run 100 metres in 18 seconds at the jolly old age of 79."

Clarifying to fans that his career on stage will go one, he claimed he would like to "move onto a Great American Songbook" or "Swing Fever tour" in 2026. He also revealed he had plans to play in smaller venues where there is more intimacy. However, he then teased: "But then again, I may not…"

After his announcement, fans were quick to share their thoughts on the matter. Many took to social media to support his decision. One wrote "God bless, Rod! And for the record, that's still faster than I can run 100m". Another added: "You do you, Rod - you have been entertaining us for decades - you deserve all the best things in life."

The singer first rose to fame as frontman of 1970s rockers the Faces, who formed after the break-up of the Small Faces, with Sir Rod and now-Rolling Stones guitarist Ronnie Wood joining up with the band’s Ian McLagan, Ronnie Lane, and Kenney Jones.

Sir Rod has also performed and recorded with the Jeff Beck Group appearing on the albums Truth and Beck-Ola.
