Rosie O'Donnell is keeping her distance as her daughter Chelsea faces a series of legal battles following two arrests within a month, leading to felony charges for drug possession, child neglect and other serious allegations.
Sources close to the situation reveal that O'Donnell, who has had a strained relationship with her 27-year-old daughter for years, seems unwilling to step in with support this time around.
"Sadly this is not new for our family," Rosie said.
"Chelsea has struggled with drug addiction for a decade - we are all hopeful she will find her way out of this deadly disease."
Chelsea, mother to four young children, first called police in September after a dispute with her boyfriend, Jacob Nelund, reportedly led to a chaotic scene.
Upon arriving, authorities allegedly found her home in disarray and discovered Chelsea in possession of 18 grams of methamphetamine. She was subsequently charged with drug trafficking, child neglect, and meth and THC possession.
"Rosie realizes she is in way over her head in dealing with Chelsea's problems," a source told In Touch. "She was a television and political icon when she adopted the girl and it looked great at the time, but I don't think she had any idea how difficult parenting can be!"
Legal troubles
Rosie, who is known for her outspoken nature, has remained notably silent about her daughter's legal troubles.
Instead, a Michigan acquaintance reportedly posted the $2,000 bail for Chelsea's release, without any apparent help from Rosie. The children's father, Jacob Bourasa, responded by filing a petition to end Chelsea's unsupervised visits with the children.
Just over a month after her first arrest, Chelsea was detained again in Oconto, Wisconsin, on October 11. During a routine stop, she allegedly attempted to discard a meth pipe in a nearby river.
With an active warrant from her previous arrest for missing a court date, Chelsea was taken into custody, and her bond was set at $5,000. Despite her multimillion-dollar fortune, Rosie reportedly declined to pay for her daughter's release.
