With years of tradition behind them, the Royal Family and tea are practically synonymous.
Whether its attending an engagement or behind closed doors, each member has a very specific favourite hot brew to comfort them.
“Each royal has their go-to favourite,” says Arthur Gautier of Nio Teas, a premium brand specialising in high-quality Japanese green teas. “Tea has played a huge role in the royal family ever since Queen Victoria popularised the drink in the 19th century.”
Arthur commented: "Tea is more than just a drink in the UK; it’s a cultural institution, and the Royal Family has played a huge part in that.
"Queen Victoria was the one who popularised afternoon tea in the 1800s, even having her own special blend made just for her. Tea time has been passed down through generations since then, with the royals at the forefront of keeping it alive."
He continued: "It’s not just about the tea itself, though—it’s about what it represents. Tea time is about taking a moment, slowing down, and connecting with others. Whether it’s a formal event at Buckingham Palace or a simple tea break at home, it’s a reminder of tradition, heritage, and hospitality.

"You can’t really talk about British life without mentioning tea—and the royals have made sure of that. Teas from royalty-approved brands like Twinings and Fortnum & Mason keep these traditions alive, allowing all of us to enjoy a taste of royalty from the comfort of our own homes."
