Ryan Reynolds accepts that Marvel became "obsessed" with Gambit after Deadpool & Wolverine

One of last summer's box office hits was Deadpool & Wolverine, the only film scheduled by Marvel Studios in 2024 that became a success for Ryan Reynolds, Hugh Jackman, and became the debut of Chaining Tatum, who played Gambit.

Before Fox's sale to Disney, a Gambit movie starring Tatum was planned, but after the poor reception of the latest X-Men movies, Fox decided to cancel the project.

However, Ryan Reynolds and his team of writers included the character created by Jim Lee, Chris Claremont and Mike Collins, which became one of the most talked about events by fans.

Marvel's obsession with Gambit

In an interview with Entertainment Weekly, Ryan Reynolds noted that in the uncertainty of the Fox and Disney merger, the Canadian went through a similar situation to Tatum.

"Once you prove that it works well, that's really what they need. Sometimes they just need to see it in action. And Channing is so unique in the way he plays that character."

The Canadian admitted that after the release of Deadpool & Wolverine, the interest in seeing Gambit on the big screen became an obsession on the part of Marvel Studios.

"Honestly, I don't know what goes on behind closed doors in Marvel's accounting sessions, but I do know that they're obsessed with him (Tatum) in that role."

With the good box office response to the film, the return of Deadpool and Wolverine to future projects, such as the upcoming Avengers: Secret Wars, is practically a given.

Deadpool & Wolverine will arrive on the Disney+ digital platform on November 12. In the United States, the film directed by Shawn Levy is already available in physical and digital stores.
