The star says love blinded him from making a sensible decision in his relationship

Rylan Clark has come a long way since his days as a reality TV show contestant.

The broadcaster's impressive CV includes various shows on BBC Radio Two and a host of TV programmes including Ready Steady Cook, Strictly Come Dancing: It Takes Two and Supermarket Sweep. But Rylan, who turned 36 last Friday, has experienced difficult times too since his rise to fame on The X Factor in 2012.

After winning Celebrity Big Brother in 2013, the star bagged a role fronting Big Brother's Bit on the Side and the show not only kickstarted his presenting career, it helped him find love. The star and former police officer turned Big Brother contestant Dan Neal fell head over heels and after Dan proposed in Paris, they wed in a star-studded bash in 2015. But Rylan later confessed to having been unfaithful in their marriage.

In 2021 Dan left the star and Rylan's mental health plummeted as a result. He took four months off work to recover and later told Matt Willis's On The Mend podcast he had made two suicide attempts during that time.

Three years on, the star is in a much happier place and while he doesn't regret his time with his ex-husband, there is one thing he would change with hindsight. "I don't regret getting married," he told Kathy Burke's Where There's A Will There's A Wake podcast.

"I mean I regret not having a f***ing prenup. That's the only thing I regret. But even though everyone was like get a prenup, I was like I'm in love. Silly prick." Rylan recently revealed that he's back on the dating scene again in a conversation with friend and co-presenter Rob Rinder on their BBC series, Rob and Rylan's Grand Tour.

The show follows the two newly divorced men as they retrace the steps of the Grand Tourists of the past. "Hopefully my luck with men is about to change," said Rylan as he headed out on a blind date on the programme.

"I always thought when you were younger: 'Imagine if you were known, you would be able to get anyone you want'. It's the complete opposite. I've had two dates in the last two years.

"One of them was really, really great and was going well. And then my job was just too much for his life. And then the other one was so interested in my job, he decided to call the press. So they're the two opposite ends of the spectrum. I need somebody in the middle that can deal with it, but don't want it."

Rylan's celebrity pals will be willing him on in his quest to find love again, with birthday messages pouring in from everybody from Holly Willoughby to Claire Sweeney. Rob Rinder called his pal "beautiful on the inside and the outside", adding: "Friendship is born at the moment when one man says to another: 'What! You too? I thought that no one but myself'."

The friends recently shared the news they will reunite once again for a travel escapade, this time touring India.
