Sara Cox 'binned off' ex-boyfriend after finding out he'd done something 'horrible'

Sara Cox has opened up about a past "very unhappy relationship" which saw her former partner "steal from" her.

The broadcaster, aged 49, reflected on feeling "stranded" in the romance prior to her rise to fame on MTV. This period followed her move from Little Lever, near Bolton, to a unique living space in London.

In a July interview with the Times, when quizzed about the worst place she's lived, Sara shared: "I was in a very unhappy relationship when I first moved to London. I lived in Arnos Grove in Enfield, north London, in a converted church."

She continued: "I was with this person who turned out to be horrible and he stole from me. I felt emotionally stranded there. Then I binned him off and the MTV [from 1997] and Big Breakfast [from 1998] years began."

Before her television breakthrough, Sara tried her hand at modelling, eventually landing a spot on Channel 4's The Girlie Show in 1996, and moving on to host a late-night music show on MTV the following year, reports the Manchester Evening News.

Since 1999, Cox has carved out a successful career as a radio presenter, currently delighting listeners during the BBC Radio 2 drive time from 4pm to 7pm on weekdays. Fortunately, Sara's personal life flourished post-breakup as well.

She has been happily married to Ben Cyzer since 2013 and is a proud mother to Lola Anne, 19, from her previous marriage to DJ Jon Carter, and to son Isaac, 15, and daughter Renee, 13.

The family resides in north London, enjoying a touch more luxury in their abode. Their home is shared with a trio of dogs named Daisy, Dolly, and Pip, a pair of cats Watson and Peggy, as well as two "quite posh" tortoises by the names of Tom and Chally.

The celebrity also owns a horse named Nelly, who is stabled in the neighbouring county of Hertfordshire. Sara acquired Nelly during lockdown and credits the horse with transforming her life for the better.

Sara is set to feature on Saturday Kitchen today (Saturday, November 2), joining host Matt Tebbutt and chefs Jay Rayner, Poppy O'Toole, and Jeremy Lee. Wine expert Olly Smith will also be on hand to select wines for the guests.
