Scott Mills will reportedly earn under half of what Zoe Ball made on BBC Radio 2's Breakfast Show.
The star is taking over the reins after Zoe announced that she would be stepping down in December after six years. The Sun has now reported that Scott will be paid £450,000 a year for the role, while Zoe made more than twice as much with an eye-watering salary of £950,000.
The publication quoted a source as saying that Scott was "genuinely thrilled" to get the slot and that he "didn't even ask about a pay rise". The insider suggested the pay difference comes as the BBC "is under enormous pressure to start making significant savings".

Zoe took over the show from Chris Evans in 2019 and was the BBC's highest paid on-air female presenter in 2023/24. But earlier this week she announced that it was time for her to move on.
"After six incredible years on the Radio 2 Breakfast Show, it’s time for me to step away from the very early mornings and focus on family," she said. "It’s been a privilege.
"I think the world of you listeners and I’m grateful to my bosses here for their support, especially this year. Huge thanks go to my awesome team on the show, Tina, Mike and Richie, and of course our listeners, with whom I’ve shared some of life’s highs and lows, the good, the bad and the daft times."

The star confirmed that her last show would be on Friday, December 20, which she said was "just in time for Christmas with plenty of fun and shenanigans".
She added: "While I’m stepping away from the Breakfast Show, I’m not disappearing entirely – I’ll still be a part of the Radio 2 family, with more news in the New Year. I’m excited to embrace my next chapter, including being a mum in the mornings, and I can’t wait to tune in on the school run!”
Scott said on Instagram that he was "truly honoured to be taking over the biggest breakfast show in the UK from my forever friend". "I honestly feel that I’ve been lovebombed since the announcement," he said.
"I’ve worked hard my whole career to get to this point, so I am allowing a moment to soak it all up and be proud of myself," he said. "This isn’t like me and I don’t do it often."
