Seven TV presenters who have been caught speeding

Noel Radford, famed for his appearance in 22 Kids and Counting, is alleged to have exceeded 40mph in his Porsche on the Bay Gateway, Morecambe, last year.

In addition to the speeding charge, Noel, a resident of South Road, Morecambe, was also accused of failing to provide information relating to the identity of the driver of the Porsche. He allegedly breached the 40mph speed limit in December.

The Channel 5 star was due to attend court days after posting about his family holiday in Florida on Instagram.

After he failed to turn up, the court heard that Noel had "left the jurisdiction" and the trial was adjourned until October 21.

Ahead of Noel's court case today, Express.co.uk has looked at seven surprising TV presenters who have been caught driving faster than they should have been.

Jeremy Clarkson

Former Top Gear presenter Jeremy Clarkson found himself in trouble after he was handed a speeding ticket in 2014.

His first ticket in 30 years, the Clarkson's Farm star, 64, was snapped by a speed camera while driving too fast on a 260-mile drive from Whitby, North Yorkshire, to London.

Jeremy revealed that he had been travelling "80 something" in a 60mph zone. He brushed off the incident, however, saying it was "nothing catastrophic, nobody died."

The Grand Tour star was keen to attend a speed awareness course, however, his high speed meant he was unable to and he had points put on his licence instead.

In June 2019, Nick Knowles was banned from driving for six months after being spotted speeding and using his mobile phone behind the wheel. The DIY SOS presenter was also handed a fine exceeding £1,300 by Cheltenham Magistrates' Court.

He later referred to the driving ban as "a wake-up call". The court was informed that Strictly Come Dancing star, 62, was clocked doing 85mph in his Range Rover when he was nabbed by a police mobile speed camera on the A417 Brockworth bypass.

Nick explained to the court that he had eschewed the use of his car's hands-free kit due to a "dodgy power lead".

The host of Who Dares Wins found himself in a spot of bother as accrued penalty points led to a driving ban. With six points already tarnishing his licence, the additional six from his recent misstep hit the threshold for a driving suspension.

The court's presiding justice Andrew Hill addressed Nick, affirming: "We take into account that you have shown remorse. We will disqualify you from driving today and you will be disqualified from driving for six months. From this moment in time, you are not able to drive any motor vehicle in any public place."

Nick quipped cheekily: "I can drive home, right?" But upon being sternly corrected, he quickly retracted: "I'm joking."

For his slip-up, the presenter was handed a double fine £666 for speeding and another £666 for mobile usage whilst driving. He also received an extra £66 victim surcharge and £85 towards prosecution costs.

Reflecting on his experience, the BBC personality remarked: "For me, this was a wake-up call and me putting my phone in the boot of my car now stops the temptation. The six-month ban was appropriate because to give anything else would be giving me special privilege."

Piers Morgan

Piers Morgan revealed he was caught speeding back in 2020. The former Good Morning Britain presenter divulged to fans on social media about his run-in with the police while on his way to a Paddy Power golf event.

He acknowledged his error on Twitter and praised the authorities for their "polite" and "respectful" conduct during the incident.

The controversial broadcaster managed to avoid a fine and penalty points, instead attending a speed awareness course.

Typically available to those first-time offenders or those who haven't committed a similar transgression in the preceding three years, the course targets less severe offences.

He wrote at the time: "Just completed an online speed awareness course... on Zoom."

James May

Two years after his co-star and friend Jeremy Clarkson was caught for speeding, James May found himself in a similar situation.

The former Top Gear host, 61, told his followers he was "busted" soon after purchasing a 599cc Honda in Chiswick. James was caught travelling faster than the 30mph limit on a stretch of the North Circular less than half-a-mile from the dealership.

In 2023, Coleen Nolan was slapped with a hefty fine of nearly £1,000 and six penalty points on her licence for speeding.

The 59-year-old was caught exceeding the 30mph speed limit on Preston New Road in Blackpool, Lancs, on July 8.

Initially pleading not guilty, Nolan changed her plea to guilty on the day of the trial at Preston Magistrates' Courts on July 21.

Alongside the £900 fine and penalty points, she was also required to pay a £360 surcharge to fund victim services and £150 costs to the Crown Prosecution Service.

Paddy McGuinness

Paddy McGuinness managed to avoid being prosecuted over a speeding offence which could have seen him banned from driving.

The Take Me Out presenter, 51, was caught driving his Land Rover at 53 mph in a 40mph zone in Chorlton, Manchester, in August 2016.

At the time, he failed to hand over information relating to the identification of a driver when caught speeding.

The two charges could have led to a mandatory ban as speeding carries six penalty points. An additional six points for failing to provide driver identification would have brought him to a total of 12 points and a driving ban.

However, after seeking legal advice from celebrity lawyer Mr Freeman, nicknamed Mr Loophole, he decided to withdraw his plea and proceed to trial.

Mr Freeman stated that his client, who resided in Prestbury, Cheshire, at the time, had moved house three times in two years and had not received either a notice of intended prosecution or a reminder.

He only became aware of the case after receiving a single justice procedure notice (SJPN) and requested a photo of the car speeding, which he claimed he never received.

Mr Freeman then highlighted procedural errors made by the CPS with the evidence in the case. The court heard that Greater Manchester Police took the lead in the prosecution and had not provided the documents, and the court dismissed the case.

Chris Evans

Radio DJ and TV presenter Chris Evans shared his frustrations about commuting on the Virgin Radio Breakfast Show in 2021.

The 58-year-old confessed he had been caught exceeding the speed limit in the early hours of the morning, but was uncertain about how "fast" he was driving at the time.

This followed a previous admission that he had been caught speeding in a 20mph zone earlier that year. Speaking about the incident, Chris expressed his annoyance at the frequent changes in speed limits within a 30-mile journey.

"We've got to talk about speed cameras," Chris told his listeners. "I've been caught again for speeding into work."

"I don't know how many miles-per-hour and I thought I was doing maybe 23 or 24mph in a new 20mph zone."

Chris continued: "Lambeth Bridge was closed and it was a new 20[mph zone] and I wasn't used to it. Listen, I'm guilty as charged. No question about that. It happened on the way into work on the M4 into the A4 coming over the flyover.

"Maybe my flask had rolled off of the passenger seat and panicked me," the radio host speculated. Maybe I was distracted. I don't know how fast I was going. We'll find out."

He went on: "I just don't do that [speeding] otherwise you would lose your license immediately. I've been on loads of speed awareness courses."

Chris expressed his desire to do the "right thing" but lamented that it's "becoming increasingly impossible". He warned: "You could lose your driver's license in one 32mph commute easily and you don't mean to do anything wrong."
