Sister Wives star Janelle Brown weighed in on Hulu’s The Secret Lives of Mormon Wives and admitted she’s intrigued by the cast.
“I didn’t know about them until this trip and I had to do the deep dive,” Janelle, 55, told Us Weekly in an interview published on Thursday, October 31. “I’m like, ‘Wow. It’s not the Mormons that I know.’”
Janelle – who has been exposed to the Mormon church through her entire life – said that the stars of the Hulu show act unlike anyone else she’s met that follows the faith. For example, the first season detailed a swingers scandal, children being conceived out of wedlock and conversations about sex toys.
“The Mormons I know, they’re so conservative,” Janelle continued. “They’re very salt of the earth, very traditional. These ladies are not traditional.”
Despite being surprised by the stars’ behavior, Janelle and Christine Brown said they were excited for season 2 of The Secret Lives of Mormon Wives.
“It’s exciting,” Christine, 52, said about the show’s renewal. “[I’m] hoping to meet them. I’m just saying.”
After season 1 premiered on Hulu in September, the streaming service officially confirmed that it was coming back for another season on October 3. “There was a philosophical question raised in season one which was ‘Can #MomTok survive this?’ The answer unequivocally is yes! Spring 2025 get your dirty sodas ready!” Rob Mills, Executive Vice President, Unscripted and Alternative Entertainment, Walt Disney Television said in a press release at the time.
The season 1 cast included Jen Affleck, Demi Engemann, Whitney Leavitt, Mikayla Matthews, Mayci Neeley, Jessi Ngatikaura, Taylor Frankie Paul and Layla Taylor. Despite facing some serious drama during season 1, all of the original stars are expecting to return for season 2.
Janelle and Christine are no strangers to drama on reality television, and fans are currently watching their issues with ex-husband Kody Brown unfold on season 19 of Sister Wives.
Christine ended her spiritual marriage with Kody, 55, in November 2021, and Janelle followed her lead by splitting from the businessman in December 2022. Meanwhile, Meri Brown also confirmed her split from Kody in January 2023. Kody’s only remaining wife is Robyn Brown, whom he wed in 2014.
Following her split from Kody, Christine moved on and found love with David Woolley. The couple had a whirlwind romance and got engaged in April 2023, waiting only six months to tie the knot in October of that year.
While speaking to Us Weekly, the mother of six revealed one of her biggest concerns about starting a monogamous relationship.
“I was a bit worried the day before we moved in together. I’d never lived with a guy full-time before,” she admitted. “But we moved right into life with each other.”
Despite having the concern, Christine declared that she was “made for” monogamy.
“I didn’t know that we could both accomplish and do everything that we want to do, but just better than we’ve ever done before,” she said while reflecting on her marriage to David, 60. “It’s just mind blowing how having someone there to support you just makes you a better person. It’s phenomenal to me.”
