Spencer Pratt Reveals Full Story Of His Dad's Absolutely Terrifying Ordeal In The Los Angeles Wildfires

3 hours ago 2

Spencer Pratt lost his beloved home in the recent Pacific Palisades fire — but that pales in comparison to what he almost lost.

On Thursday’s brand-new episode of the Viall Files podcast, the 41-year-old reality TV veteran and his wife Heidi Montag were the guests of longtime host Nick Viall. During the show, they opened up more about losing their home in the fire and being forced to figure out a way to somehow completely rebuild their lives.

But they very nearly lost Spencer’s father William, too. In fact, Spencer’s dad is still dealing with some extremely scary health issues after going back into harm’s way and trying to beat back the flames only to end up losing his home in the blaze, too.

As the couple — along with their sons Gunner, 7, and Ryker, 2 — try to figure out how they can start to get over the unimaginable ordeal, Spencer revealed to the Bachelor alum just how close William came to losing his life. Pratt explained that at first, as the flames grew, he couldn’t get his dad away from the fire no matter what he did:

“I’m trying to tear my dad away from a mountain of fire because he was, like, in this trance and would not leave. I was like, ‘You’re gonna die, Dad.’ He was like, ‘I’m gonna stay and fight the fire. I did it in Malibu in the ‘70s.’”

Eventually, after “two hours” of coaxing, Spencer finally convinced his father to leave his Pacific Palisades home, which was very close to the one where Spencer and Heidi lived. But the ordeal wasn’t done there. In fact, it had only just begun. The Hills alum recalled:

“I finally drove him away [and] then I watched on security cameras, he snuck back. So, now I’m watching my dad with this little garden hose as a mountain of flames is coming down the street. He’s not picking up his phone. The hardest part about the whole thing was watching and not having my dad pick up. I was like, ‘My dad’s gonna die.’”

OMG!!

Before the security cameras cut out from the heat and flames, Spencer watched as William tried in vain to extinguish the flames at both of their homes. Spencer’s dad wasn’t able to do so, and both families lost their homes in the tragedy.

The danger to William’s life was ever-present, too. Spencer admitted on the podcast that his dad “fully should have” died while trying to fight the fire. So bone-chilling…

At that point,  Spencer said that he called his dad roughly “700 times” without being able to get through. And when William finally did pick up long after, it “sounded like he had brain poisoning from the smoke,” Spencer recalled. Heidi then jumped in and explained how they also tried calling 911 about saving William, only to be told that nobody was coming to help:

“They were like, ‘Absolutely not. No one is going there. Those roads are inaccessible. Whatever he is doing is taking his own life at risk.'”

Eventually, Spencer learned that his dad was somehow able to make his way out of the area and down to safety. The Pratt Daddy Crystals founder eventually learned that William had gone to a hospital to get checked out, too. Smart!!

But now, William has been left to deal with some very serious (and very persistent) health issues related to his voice, his breathing, and his throat:

“He [later] went to the hospital with smoke inhalation poisoning or whatever. He can barely talk now. That was good and bad because it really took my mind off watching our own house burning down on the security cameras. At least my dad got out of there.”

Jeez…

In the end, Spencer and Heidi have moved with their kids out to a new place in Santa Barbara as they figure out where to next make their permanent home and rebuild their lives. Meanwhile, Pratt revealed that his dad has taken up residence down in Santa Monica.

Truly terrifying on all counts.

We’re just so glad that Spencer, Heidi, and William all made it out okay. Losing their homes, and all their stuff, and all their memories — that’s an unimaginable and crushing loss. But losing those things is a far better outcome than dealing with what they nearly lost.
