Strictly: Amy Dowden presents JB Gill with a birthday cake
JB Gill's wife Chloe has opened up about the “challenging” year she endured while supporting her husband on Strictly Come Dancing.
The dance teacher shared a post reflecting on the toll the BBC show took on her and how she'll be prioritising self-care going forward.
JLS star, JB, wowed audiences with his performances alongside pro partners Amy Dowden and Lauren Oakley, eventually making it to the grand finale. He was loved by fans and narrowly missed out on the Glitterball Trophy to comedian Chris McCausland.
Chloe, who is a trained dancer herself, regularly accompanied her husband in rehearsals and was often seen supporting him on-screen. However, her involvement sparked backlash, with some viewers accusing her of “interfering” with JB’s preparations.
Taking to Instagram after spending the holidays abroad with their family, Chloe shared a photo of JB with their two children, and wrote: “I’ve been hiding away with my babies for the last 11 days! I knew it was needed but I didn’t realise just how much!

“Last year was possibly one of the most personally challenging for me. Keeping everything going, being everywhere, supporting everyone, living up to everybody’s expectations and trying to keep those around me happy in the midst of this fast-paced life we live was exhausting and overwhelming.
“It got to the point where people began saying that I was physically there but mentally absent! I was en route to burning out so this break was well and truly needed!!
“I learned a lot about myself, the main thing being that somewhere deep inside me, I have a grit and determination that will not allow me to break," she continued.
"I had multiple tests and situations that brought me close to breaking point but each time I realised that it was nothing a good cry and pulling up those big girl pants couldn’t sort out.
“This year, I’m really going to try and be kinder to myself and look after my body, mind and soul. I’ve neglected this since having children as they completely consume my life but I know that once I take a little time for myself, everyone around me will be able to benefit from a better version of me.”

Chloe added: “My aim is that as I come to the end of 2025, I’ll feel less burnt out and overwhelmed. 2025, I’m finally ready to take all you’ve got to throw at me! It’s going to be an amazing year #thegills #newyear #2025.”
Fans and friends rallied behind here in the comments, with JB, who previously exposed pre-show "ritual" his wife told him not to do, led the tributes. “Always my favourite time of the year and well deserved @mrschloegill. Thank you for all you do for our family through thick and thin. We love you always,” he wrote.
Strictly pro Amy responded with a heart emoji, while It Takes Two host Fleur East added: “Beautiful photo,” with love-heart-eyed emojis. Lauren and other stars, including Motsi Mabuse and Rochelle Humes, also liked the post in a show of support.
While JB bid farewell to the Strictly ballroom after last year’s finale, he isn’t hanging up his dancing shoes just yet.
The singer is set to join his fellow Strictly stars on the live tour this year, bringing the glitz and glamour of the show to audiences across the UK.
