Sydney Sweeney calls out Hollywood's double standards after brutal attack from veteran producer

Sydney Sweeney has never been one to shy away from speaking her mind, and after facing harsh remarks from seasoned Hollywood producer Carol Baum, she's taking a stand.

Baum's comments earlier this year stirred controversy when she dismissed Sweeney's looks and acting abilities, stating, "She's not pretty, she can't act. Why is she so hot?"

Baum also slammed Sweeney's rom-com Anyone but You as "unwatchable." Sweeney's representative swiftly condemned Baum's remarks, but now the Euphoria star has spoken out herself, calling out Hollywood's toxic double standards.

"It's incredibly disappointing to see women tearing each other down, especially when it comes from someone who's achieved so much in their own career," Sweeney said in an interview with Vanity Fair.

"This industry is always talking about 'women supporting women,' but it's rarely genuine. A lot of it is just a fa?ade for the gossip and negativity that happens behind closed doors."

Sweeney believes this toxic culture is rooted in a long-standing societal mindset that pits women against one another.

"We've been raised to believe that only one woman can succeed, whether it's in a career, relationships, or anything else," she explained. "Instead of uplifting one another, we're conditioned to compete."

Despite the criticism, Sweeney's career continues to soar. Her film Anyone but You defied its slow start, amassing over $220 million globally-a success Sweeney attributes to her fans. "I loved how authentic the audience's reaction was.

They fell in love with the movie and shared it with others," she said. The film's marketing strategy, which leaned into speculation about her chemistry with co-star Glen Powell, also played a key role.

Reflecting on it, Sweeney admitted, "We weren't planning to address the strategy, but when you say no to a question, people assume the worst."

Sweeney also addressed how hosting Saturday Night Live gave her a chance to reclaim her narrative.

"I pushed to address certain rumors during my monologue. It felt empowering to take control of the narrative and show my authentic self," she shared.

Looking Ahead in Hollywood

With Euphoria resuming production and a slate of new projects, including the thriller Echo Valley and the Barbarella remake, Sweeney is focusing on her work and her role as a producer.

While her journey hasn't been without obstacles, she's determined to rise above negativity. "Why am I being attacked? I'm just doing my best," she said.

As she continues to navigate her career, Sweeney hopes to foster genuine change in Hollywood.

"It's about time we stop this toxic culture and start truly supporting one another," she concluded.

Sydney Sweeney's resilience and drive are undeniable, proving that no amount of criticism can dim her star power.
