SZA Expands Grammy-Winning 'SOS' Album With 'Lana'

Lana, meet world. World, meet Lana.

Just over two years after the release of SOS, which later took home the Grammy for Best Progressive R&B Album, SZA has given the widely acclaimed project a deluxe edition. Yet the SZA path toward a deluxe, long referred to as the nickname-nodding Lana, seemingly stands as both a deluxe in the traditional sense and a separate project all its own.

SZA herself said as much in a 2023 interview with Variety, noting that outtakes and new tracks were the initial intentions for the expansion, but somewhere during the process, it grew into something much bigger.

Take it all in via your preferred streaming service here. Fan bundles with exclusive merchandise can be purchased here. The album's cover art, featuring SZA in full-fledged bug mode (a look she previously utilized on Hot Ones), is credited to visual artist and photographer Cassidy Meyers.

Notably, the 15-track extended edition features Kendrick Lamar on "30 for 30." Production has contributions from Michael Uzowuru, ThankGod4Cody, Carter Lang, Rob Bisel, Solomonophonic & Monsune, Dylan Newstarter, among others. Tracklist is below:

01 No More Hiding
02 What Do I Do
03 30 for 30 (with Kendrick Lamar)
04 Diamond Boy (DTM)
05 BMF
06 Scorsese Baby Daddy
07 Love Me 4 Me
08 Chill Baby
09 My Turn
10 Crybaby
11 Kitchen
12 Get Behind Me (Interlude)
13 Drive
14 Another Life
15 Saturn

In the run-up to Lana’s long-teased release, SZA enlisted Ben Stiller for a video in which the Severance director is seen singing along to the track “Drive.” Fittingly, when sharing the clip, SZA reminded fans that not only was Lana set to be released on Dec. 20, but Severance was slated to return for a new season on Jan. 17. SZA has made her fandom of the show quite public, and for good reason: It’s great.

The full version of the Stiller-starring visual, indeed serving as the video for “Drive,” was released just before SZA let fans know that the album itself would be slightly delayed. Bradley J. Calder is credited as director and editor.

In an IG Stories update Thursday night, SZA wrote, “Just needed a few more hours for new mixes to ingest evenly across all platforms. Mixes are important.”

Next for SZA is a shrewdly-timed stadium tour with Kendrick Lamar. See here for dates and ticket info.
