Taylor Swift fans are convinced that the pop superstar is subtly erasing traces of her past romance with Joe Alwyn. The chatter started after the release of behind-the-scenes (BTS) footage from her music video shoots for "Anti-Hero" and "Bejeweled", which were uploaded to her YouTube page as part of her 35th birthday celebration.
While the videos were initially intended to highlight Swift's role as both the director and star of her music videos, eagle-eyed fans noticed something suspicious in one particular scene.
In one frame from the BTS footage of the "Bejeweled" video set, Swift was seen chatting with makeup icon Pat McGrath while holding her phone. Originally, fans pointed out that her phone case featured a photo of Taylor snuggling with her then-boyfriend, Joe Alwyn.
But in an updated version of the footage, fans claim the image had been blurred or edited so that Alwyn was no longer visible. Naturally, this change didn't escape the sharp eyes of Swifties, who flocked to social media to discuss the possible significance.
"She's really in her revisionist history era, and I'm here for it," one fan commented on X.
Another wrote: "She's rewriting history like it's a 10-minute version of All Too Well."
While some fans viewed the move as an intentional attempt to erase the actor from her past, others took a more lighthearted approach.
"Maybe she just wants the focus on her current love story," a fan speculated.
Their joint journey
The removal of Joe Alwyn from Swift's BTS footage has reignited interest in the pop star's love life. Swift and Alwyn, an actor known for roles in films like "The Favourite" and "Conversations with Friends", had one of the most private and closely-guarded celebrity relationships.
The couple dated for six years beginning in 2016, keeping their romance so under wraps that fans often had to rely on lyrical "Easter eggs" to catch glimpses of their love story.
Their relationship came to an end in early 2023, with reports calling the split "amicable."
