As we gear up for another weekend of Strictly Come Dancing, fans are still lusting after Tess Daly’s outfit from last week’s episode. For the Halloween special, Tess wore a beautiful embellished midi dress with a dramatic cape detail that had fans begging for details on where to buy it.
Thankfully, we managed to track down Tess’ exact dress – the Compact Stretch Viscose Crystal Embellished Cape Maxi Dress from Karen Millen – and it’s available in three different colours. You can pick from black, red, and white versions of the cape dress, and it's available in sizes 6 to 16.

Fans couldn’t get enough of Tess’ dress, flooding her Instagram with comments underneath a snap of herself in the dress. “Where did you buy your beautiful dress tonight please” asked one, whilst another wrote: “Neeeed this dress!”
Others agreed, writing: “You look beautiful love the dress” and “Your dress tonight is absolutely gorgeous.”
The sought-after midi dress is perfect for formal occasions, particularly with Christmas and the festive season coming up. It features sparkling crystal embellishments across the chest and shoulders, with long sweeping cape sleeves which give it plenty of added drama.

Don’t worry about it being too restrictive, though; it has a thigh-high leg split to make sure you can walk around comfortably in it.
The Strictly presenter opted to pair hers with a pair of silver metallic heels similar to this pair of Ajvani Stiletto Heel Court Shoes, which are currently on sale at Debenhams for £29.99, and added some sparkling silver jewellery to complete the look.
Tess’ Karen Millen dress is also currently on sale for £335.30, rather than its usual price of £479. If this is a little out of your budget for your festive ‘dos, we’ve also tracked down some more affordable alternatives so you can copy Tess’ style for less.
At Lavish Alice, the Kelly Cape Sleeve Maxi Dress in Black has been reduced to £117.60 from £168, and has the same dramatic cape sleeves and figure hugging fit as Tess’ dress. It features a crystal detail around the collar, and a floor-length hemline that gives it an added wow factor.
Meanwhile over at Debenhams, if you prefer a shorter hemline you can get the Adrianna Papell Off Shoulder Cape Dress for £169. It has the same bodycon fit and flowing cape sleeves, but has an above-the-knee hemline and off the shoulder design, allowing you to bare some skin and balance out the volume of the long sleeves.
Cape dresses may well be one of the top silhouettes at this year’s Christmas parties – and we can definitely thank Tess for starting the trend!
