‘The Challenge’ Recap: Bananas Gets Revenge on Devin as 2 of His Allies Go Head-to-Head in Elimination

3 weeks ago 2

Johnny “Bananas” Devenanzio’s revenge plot against Devin Walker continued after the latter’s elimination on The Challenge: Battle of the Eras. However, his decision to target Devin’s allies wound up coming back to bite him by the end of the Wednesday, October 30, episode.

What Are the Alliances on ‘The Challenge’ Season 40?

The lines were officially drawn in the sand with alliances. On one side, Johnny, 42, was teamed up with his “angels” – Aviv Melmed, Jenny West, Rachel Robinson and Laurel Stucky. On the other side was Devin’s crew – Tori Deal, Jordan Wiseley, Cory Wharton, Kyland Young, Olivia Kaiser, Michele Fitzgerald and Nia Moore.

Derek Chavez, Cara Maria Sorbello and Nehemiah Clark were left fending for themselves, while Theo Campbell was connected to Tori’s alliance due to his relationship with Olivia, 32. Josh Martinez was also in the “vacation alliance” with Tori, 31, but had close ties to Bananas and Rachel, 41, too, so his allegiance was often unclear.

After Johnny chose Devin’s girlfriend, Michele, 34, as one of this week’s targets, she said she no longer wanted to salvage their friendship because he didn’t seem to want to put any effort into doing so. Michele’s closest allies – Olivia and Nia, 35 – were the other women chosen as targets because Tori was off the table as an option since she won the previous challenge.

Who Won the Daily Challenge on ‘The Challenge’ Season 40, Episode 11?

The daily challenge required the players to race through a lengthy obstacle course that required them to climb a ladder, navigate slanted bridges, complete a puzzle, do a rope swing and more. Michele was given a 30-second penalty since she lost the previous daily challenge.

Kyland, 33, won the challenge for the men, while Jenny, 38, was victorious for the women. Meanwhile, Theo lost for the men, which means he’ll have a penalty at the next challenge, and Nia lost for the women, sending her straight into elimination. As the only two remaining targets, Michele and Olivia had to plead their case to Kyland – Nia’s boyfriend – and Jenny for why they should not be voted into elimination.

Michele knew Kyland was likely going to choose her as Nia’s opponent and assured him she’d have no hard feelings.

Johnny Bananas and Tori Fight in ‘The Challenge’ Season 40, Episode 11

Despite not being involved in the voting this week, Johnny still managed to cause chaos during a night out. It started when Olivia called him out for referring to her as a “snake” when choosing her as a target. Johnny then exploded on Olivia and others in her alliance, beginning with pointing out to Nia that Jordan – her close friend and ally – was protecting several other people ahead of her.

He then turned the attention on Tori by trying to get her to name her “top four” guys in the house as a way to prove that some of the men who thought Tori was protecting them weren’t at the top of her list. It led to a screaming match between the two in front of everyone in the house, which ended with Tori declaring that they were no longer friends.

Who Went Home on ‘The Challenge’ Season 40, Episode 11?

Kyland and Jenny chose Michele to go in against Nia in the elimination. It was a test of endurance and intelligence. The ladies had to solve math equations to figure out the combinations to locks that were attached to chains holding 40 heavy crates together. After unlocking the crates, they had to carry all 40 crates over to a different area of the arena.

Michele beat Nia in the challenge, which put her in the power position to choose next week’s targets. Unsurprisingly, she went with Johnny as her first pick, but also chose Nehemiah and Jordan since she knew she wasn’t at the top of their lists to protect.

Rachel Breaks Out Her Social Game in ‘The Challenge’ Season 40, Episode 11

We’d be remiss not to point out Rachel’s stellar social game this season. While she came into the show as a physical powerhouse, she’s also been proving that she has the political gameplay to win. Since Rachel hasn’t been on the show in years, she didn’t have relationships with a lot of the players, but she made sure to slowly rectify that all season long.

Last week, she made a deal with Tori because she knew that Tori and Jordan, 34, were close and she wanted protection from Jordan in the future. This week, she set her sights on Nehemiah, 38, and urged Cory – who she aligned herself with earlier in the season – to put in a good word for her. Nehemiah was all for agreeing not to target Rachel in the future.
