The Kardashians season 6 airs on February 6 and is under more pressure than ever to deliver ratings, per reports. Now, a source exclusively tells In Touch it’s chaos within the family as everyone eyes up their own next steps while predicting the end of the show is nigh – leaving Kris Jenner in a major tailspin.
The Kardashian momager, 69, has been feeling the heat over the past few years as the responsibility for ratings falls squarely on her shoulders. “The pressure has been building for some time and there have been clear signs the show’s in trouble as ratings decline,” the source says. “Everyone in the family knows they can’t squeeze this lemon much longer as far as TV paydays go.”
Lately, the mega-famous family has been relatively quiet, besides for some outrage caused by a private screening of Wicked held in their home before the movie even hit theaters, signaling that most members would rather focus on their business ventures rather than spin up drama for TV ratings and promotion of their show and family brand.
“It’s become tedious for all the girls having cameras trail their lives,” the insider continues. “Most of them are proactive in growing other aspects of their respective businesses and ways to make money.”
Controversy had, at one time, been absolutely central to the Kardashian brand. Since kicking off their media careers with Keeping Up With the Kardashians in 2007, the family has managed to pretty much produce a string of unbroken news cycles centered around them, the outrageous things they do, the celebrities they interact with, or the people that hate on them as a result. However, the insider notes that this business model is growing old as they ascend to billionaire status, leaving Kris unsure of how to move forward with keeping things juicy on their current show, The Kardashians.
“At this point, Kylie and Kendall don’t need it, nor does Kim, and Kourtney’s frustrated with the whole thing and the bitchy storylines. Kourtney’s also got a spinoff of her own with Travis [Barker], as rumor has it,” the insider says.
As Life & Style previously reported, Kris has been hunting high and low for fresh drama to dangle in front of the cameras, even going as far as encouraging Kim, 43, listen to her children’s dating advice and threatening Kylie, 28, with bringing her ex Travis Scott back on the show if she doesn’t start prodding current beau Timothée Chalamet to make more appearances on the show to boost ratings.
“Kris knows this and if terrible numbers come in, she won’t be able to control her girls at all,” the insider says. “It’s already made for awkward scenes. Kris tries to crack the whip, but doesn’t have the power she used to. She might still have Khloé to a degree, but the reality is her kids are smart and have gone ahead and made a contingency plan.”
“Kris pulled a minor miracle getting them renewed, but it can only go on for so long.”
