One celebrity chef is richer than Jamie Oliver and Gordon Ramsay combined – and it’s not who you’d think.

When it comes to the rich lists of TV cooks, Jamie Oliver actually comes in third with a net worth of £241million. Gordon Ramsay falls behind him, boasting a net worth of £176million and a salary of around £56million a year.

Forbes ranked Gordon as number 19 in its list of the world’s highest paid celebrities in 2020, and with an empire of restaurants and shows under his belt, it’s surprising he wasn’t higher up on the list.

Coming in second is a chef with a huge link to Tesla owner Elon Musk – his brother, restauranteur Kimbal Musk. As well as sitting on the boards for Tesla Inc. and SpaceX, Kimbal has co-founded software company Zip2 with his brother, which was bought out for $307million back in 1999.

But in his own career, Kimbal has appeared on cooking shows including Chopped and To Dine For with Kate Sullivan.

His net worth has been estimated at $500million – that’s around £399million.

Not even Elon Musk’s brother could beat out the richest celebrity chef, however. Topping the list is American chef Alan Wong, famed for his Hawaiian cuisine.

Alan has appeared as a guest judge on US cooking show Top Chef, in which contestants were tasked with catering his birthday luau. He’s even cooked for President Obama at the annual White House Congressional picnic.

He’s appeared on shows including The Best Thing I Ever Ate, Taste of Hawaii and At the Table With…, and boasts an eye-watering net worth of $1.1billion, around £884million.

And all of that is in spite of the closures of every single one of Wong’s restaurants, with the final one – Alan Wong’s King Street, based in Honolulu – closing its doors during the Covid-19 pandemic.
