The Pixel 9 Pro Fold is both a blessing and a curse. It folds in half, which is great, but finding a good case for a phone that folds in half can be tough. That’s where we’ve settled on Thinborne’s minimal aramid fiber case for the Pixel 9 Pro Fold, as it brings the best light protection with none of the issues that come with foldable cases.
Cases manufacturers are going to need to step it up soon because foldable phones are becoming more and more common. The issues that often arise with these cases come from that front panel, and as phones become thinner, there’s even less material to grab onto. Most foldable cases struggle to stay on because they can’t grip a phone from all sides. This is generally aided by some adhesive padding, which helps some of the time.
Thinborne has knocked the Pixel 9 Pro Fold case design out of the park. Like most of the company’s cases, it’s made from 600D aramid fiber. Not only is that material strong, but it has just enough give to fit onto a device without easily letting go, which means it stays on very well. The material choice also makes the Thinborne case very thin — 0.04 inches. On top of that, the case is very grippy and offers up a great feel in the hands. The type of feel you get from holding the phone without a case.
The Thinborne case has a basic design on the Pixel 9 Pro Fold. Two separate panels cover the front display and rear of the phone. Over the hinge, there is no material, which would be our only complaint, though we know it would mean more material and a design that wouldn’t be as minimalistic. The cutouts for the camera array and buttons are perfectly placed, offering protection even if the phone sits flat on a table.
The best part about the case is its MagSafe compatibility. The magnets that Thinborne uses are incredibly strong and offer a fantastic hold, whether that’s on a mount or with accessories. To test this, I like to stick my phone to a golf cart using a MagSafe mount. I then give it full power and ride around for a bit. Let’s just say that Thinborne cases have a high success rate of staying on, even with a heavier folding phone, though I in no way advise anyone to try that.
It is worth noting that because of the Pixel 9 Pro Fold’s odd wireless charging placement, Thinborne had to put the magnets in a slightly different spot to ensure accurate charging placement. That being said, some accessories like magnetic wallets might not land in the best spot. Again, that’s Google’s fault more than the manufacturer’s.
As far as drop protection goes, you shouldn’t expect the phone to be able to handle high drops onto hard surfaces like concrete. Still, I have let my phone tumble a couple of times in the months that I’ve used this case, and I haven’t had a single issue. On top of that, it shows minimal signs of use, like large scratches or dents, and I have not been incredibly kind to it.
Thinborne’s MagSafe case for the Pixel 9 Pro Fold comes in at a hefty $99 on a normal day, though it’s currently on sale for $69. At that price, it’s a steal. As much as I love using this case in comparison to others I have, I feel like the minimal option from Thinborne is an easy recommend.
