Chrisley Knows Best alum Todd Chrisley has been fired from his prison chapel job, his attorney revealed.
The reality TV personality, 55, was removed from his job as an assistant to the chaplain at Federal Prison Camp Pensacola, where is he currently serving time, lawyer Jay Surgent confirmed to People on Thursday, October 24. He was fired from the position after “associating with inmates” who are part of the prison’s Residential Drug Abuse Program.
Surgent told the outlet that Todd lost access to an office in the chapel where he did volunteer work. The Georgia-born USA Network star is “very disappointed and upset that he can no longer participate in the administration of the set-up for religious services at Pensacola, which includes Christian, Jewish, and Muslim services,” the attorney said.
According to Surgent, Todd feels that he was fired “without cause,” but it “has not affected his firm belief that in the end, God will work things out for him, Julie, and his family.”
“For privacy reasons, we do not comment on the conditions of confinement for any incarcerated individual, including their work detail assignments,” a rep for the Federal Bureau of Prisons told TMZ.
Todd and wife Julie Chrisley are both serving time in prison after they were found guilty of federal tax evasion, bank fraud and conspiracy in June 2022. He was sentenced to 12 years behind bars, while she was sentenced to seven years, in November 2022, and they both reported to prison in January 2023. Julie, 51, is currently serving her sentence at the Federal Medical Center in Lexington, Kentucky.
Both Todd’s and Julie’s sentences were reduced in September 2023. Todd’s release date was moved to June 26, 2032, while his wife’s release date is now set for April 22, 2028. Her seven-year prison sentence was vacated in June when federal judges ruled that her case had insufficient evidence. However, Julie’s original sentencing was upheld in September when a judge ruled that the punishment was sufficient.
In December 2023, Todd claimed that the Florida prison where he is serving time is “disgustingly filthy.”
“The food is literally, I’m not exaggerating this … the food is dated. It’s out of date by, at a minimum, a year. It’s a year past expiration,” he told News Nation via a phone interview.
He also claimed that a dead cat once dropped from the ceiling onto the prison food.
Todd’s claims came one month after a source exclusively revealed to In Touch that he and Julie were not meshing well with the prison staff and their fellow inmates.
“Todd is seen as a smarmy know-it-all by a lot of the inmates and it’s the same with Julie, who’s been hoping for sympathy since she set foot in jail,” the insider said. “There’s a lot of taunting, both behind their backs and to their faces. They’re deluded that complaining will get them out sooner.”
The couple’s daughter Savannah Chrisley advocated for the release of her mother as soon as possible in a letter to the court obtained by In Touch on September 26.
“Today marks 617 days since my family was torn apart. In that time, the trauma and pain of separation have felt like a lifetime of punishment. I am writing to you, not just as a daughter, but as a 27-year-old woman now raising my younger brother Grayson and sister Chloe,” she wrote. “The past two years have been unimaginably difficult. I know that God destined me for motherhood, but never did I expect to be placed in this role under these circumstances. I love Grayson and Chloe with all my heart, but no matter how much I provide for them, I know I can never truly give them what their mother can.”
Savannah later added, “Watching the treatment of my mom while she is incarcerated has been heartbreaking. The conditions are inhumane, especially for women.”
She concluded, “I long for the day I can embrace my mother as a free woman again. I beg you, Your Honor — please, send my mama home.”
