Tom Homan Discusses Moving Migrants Into Rich Liberal Neighborhoods

What's New

Donald Trump's incoming border czar, Tom Homan, has suggested busing migrants to "rich liberal" neighborhoods in an interview on Tucker Carlson's show on X, formerly Twitter.

Why It Matters

Homan, the former acting director of Immigration and Customs Enforcement under the first Trump administration, has outlined his plans to deport migrants who crossed the southern border illegally and suggested relocating them to wealthy, liberal neighborhoods.

Immigration and border security were at the forefront of the Republican Party platform as the GOP won the presidency, gained a majority in the Senate, and retained control of the House of Representatives.

What To Know

On his X show Wednesday night, Carlson asked Homan, "Is there any way to move millions of Haitians into rich, white, liberal neighborhoods?"

Homan chuckled, but Carlson said he was serious, adding, "I mean it," before elaborating on the reasoning behind the proposal.

"The people who did this are rich, white liberals in the United States who hate themselves and the country, and to punish it, they invited all these people illegally from failed countries, but they can't stand the idea of living near these people because they're racist," Carlson said without providing any evidence.

"Why wouldn't you move every Haitian to Bethesda and Brookline and Aspen and Martha's Vineyard and Nantucket? Like today, can we do that? I will donate money if we do that."

Homan responded and said: 'We absolutely could do it. Martha's Vineyard did it!'

He added that the idea of busing migrants to wealthy areas was proposed by Trump.

"Do you know who first came up with the idea of busing people to sanctuary cities? It was President Trump," Homan said.

"I remember sitting in the Oval Office one time, and he said, 'Why don't we do that?' So we started putting plans together, but the remaining Mexico program was such a game changer," he added.

"We couldn't fill a bus up if we wanted to. So we beat this. We beat the problem before we actually got to that."

What People Are Saying

Colin Rugg, a conservative political commentator, said in a post on X: "Tucker Carlson tells Tom Homan he will send him the zip codes of Antony Blinken and other Washington elites so he can bus illegal immigrants into their communities. Brilliant.

"Carlson was calling out the hypocrisy of the liberal elite before Homan revealed that Trump was the mastermind behind the illegal immigrant bussing scheme."

What Happens Next

Trump is set to return to the White House on January 20 and is expected to implement sweeping changes to immigration policy.

The president-elect has vowed to conduct the largest mass deportation operation in U.S. history; shut down the CBP-One App, which people use to try to get an appointment with U.S. Customs and Border Protection; end catch and release; and restore Remain in Mexico.

Across the aisle, Democratic lawmakers and advocacy groups are gearing up to challenge the incoming administration as it prepares to crack down on illegal immigration.
