The Chicago Cubs are on the cusp of contending for the NL Central Division crown and a berth in the postseason, but they still have to make a few more moves in order to have the best team possible.
This includes free agency signings, prospects being brought up, and potential trades they may make.
In order to make a trade, especially for a big-name player, the team will need to move one or more of its top-ranked prospects.
MLB insider Jon Morosi of MLB Network reported Wednesday that one of the Cubs' top prospects is creating quite the buzz from opposing teams at general managers meetings right now.
"Owen Caissie is a popular name in early-stage trade buzz at the GM Meetings," Morosi said in a post to X/Twitter. "The 22-year-old Cubs prospect is coming off an impressive Triple-A season (.848 OPS) but does not have a clear path to everyday at-bats in a crowded MLB outfield."
Caissie, 22, is the 34th-ranked prospect in all of baseball according to MLB Pipeline. The 6-foot-3 outfielder was drafted in 2020 and is projected to make his debut with the Cubs in 2025, but he doesn't have a clear path to consistent playing time.
The 22-year-old slashed .278/.375/.472 in Triple-A this year. He slugged 19 home runs and swiped 11 bases. His raw talent is off the charts, so it should come as no surprise that the Cubs are receiving interest in him.
But will Chicago explore trading him this winter?
