Trump-Backed Randy Fine, DeSantis Critic, Wins Florida House Primary

1 day ago 8

Florida state Senator Randy Fine, a self-proclaimed "conservative firebrand," secured victory in the Republican primary for the special election to replace former Representative Mike Waltz in Florida's 6th Congressional District.

Fine, backed by President Donald Trump, successfully overcame challenges from two other Republican candidates in the race for the seat that includes Daytona Beach and communities south of Jacksonville.

Known for his staunch support of Israel and his initiatives to restrict LGBTQ+ rights, Fine had been a significant ally of Governor Ron DeSantis. However, Fine later distanced himself from DeSantis and endorsed Trump during the 2024 Republican presidential primary, accusing the governor of not doing enough to combat antisemitism.

Fine will move on to the general election on April 1, where he will face Democrat Josh Weil, a public school teacher from Orlando. The 6th District seat became vacant after Trump appointed Waltz as his national security advisor.
