Brad Pitt, 60, sent fans spiralling when he appeared to faint after suffering through a gruesome accident at the Las Vegas Grand Prix on Saturday.

In videos and photos that took over social media following the event, Brad was seen standing by a car with smoke surrounding him and the crashed vehicle. Wearing full white racing leathers and a helmet, the actor stumbled away from the wreck, seeming to struggle to keep his balance. Brad only got a few yards from the car, before he fell over in a dead faint, face first.

We now know exactly what caused the shocking scene, and thankfully, it wasn’t what it seems. Brad was at the Grand Prix filming for a new Formula One movie he’s starring in, and his medical emergency was just a stunt.

In the film, F1, which is set to be released in June 2025, Brad plays driver Sonny Hayes, part of a fictional team called APX GP. Rising star Damson Idris plays his teammate Joshua, with the cast joined by other talented actors such as Javier Bardem and Tobias Menzies. Running the show is Joseph Kosinski, who directed hit film Top Gun: Maverick.

The movie seems very dedicated to setting up a real Formula One experience, and even has a Twitter page for APX GP, where they cleared up any rumours that Brad’s accident was real while staying in character and hinting at the plot of the film.

The first tweet after the public incident read: “A tough night in Vegas. Sonny sustained an injury in qualifying and won’t race tomorrow as he focuses on recovery. The team is fully behind him, and Joshua will carry our hopes on race day.”

Next, the fake team posted: "During qualifying, Sonny sustained a significant impact requiring immediate medical evaluation.Incidents of this magnitude are always taken seriously, and Sonny's health remains our top priority.

“While Sonny is otherwise stable, he will not participate in tomorrow's race as he focuses on recovery. The entire team stands behind him, and we'll provide updates when available. Joshua will race solo tomorrow, carrying the team forward."

They then followed up again the next day, writing: “It’s race day in Vegas, and while the team rallies behind Joshua, our thoughts remain with Sonny as he recovers from yesterday’s incident. This one’s for the team, for Sonny, and for everyone supporting us through the highs and lows. Joshua, we’re with you all the way.”

Brad’s character Sonny was revealed to have his own page on X, and finally wrote: “After my qualifying incident, I was checked overnight by the medics. I am doing sore but okay. Under medical advice, I will not be participating in tonight’s #LasVegasGP. I wish Joshua and the rest of the team good luck for the race.”

So, while Brad Pitt’s faint was just a movie stunt, it gave away some hints that his upcoming role might be one of his most dramatic yet.
