We now finally know more about Wendy Williams‘ previously uncertain health status. The daytime diva continues to battle frontotemporal dementia and primary progressive aphasia — and this latest update is just so unbelievably heartbreaking.
On Monday, the US Sun was first to report the existence of brand-new court documents just filed by the former talk show host’s legal guardian Sabrina Morrissey. In that filing, Morrissey’s lawyers revealed in a New York courtroom that the 60-year-old television icon has become “permanently incapacitated” from her ongoing dementia fight.
Oh, no…
We’ve known for a while now that the situation involving the Wendy Williams Show alum was dire. But to hear it come out so starkly like this — and on the record in a court of law, no less — is just crushing. Permanently incapacitated. Damn.

In the new filing, the legal guardian’s attorneys began by reiterating Morrissey’s role in overseeing Williams’ finances and affairs:
“In January 2022, after becoming aware of a pattern of disturbing events concerning [Wendy’s] welfare and finances, Wells Fargo took the highly unusual step of initiating a guardianship proceeding on its own initiative in the Supreme Court of New York, New York County (the ‘Guardianship Proceeding’), to seek the court appointment of an independent guardian for [Wendy’s] financial affairs.”
Then, Morrissey pleaded with the court for discretion. Specifically, the legal team requested that Wendy’s “health, familial relationships, and finances” be redacted by the court to protect the celebrity talk show host’s privacy:
“We respectfully request that the Court grant Plaintiff’s motion for limited redactions to protect non-public information from the Guardianship Proceeding that has been placed under seal by the court overseeing that proceeding.”
And then, the crushing kicker. Morrissey’s lawyers claimed that Wendy has “tragically” become “permanently incapacitated” due to the severe dementia that has taken over her life:
“[Wendy is] an acclaimed entertainer who, tragically, has been afflicted by early-onset dementia and, as a result, has become cognitively impaired and permanently incapacitated.”
Again, as we noted, we’ve feared for a while that things were very bad in Wendy’s world. But to read it laid out like this on the record is a devastating blow. Whatever small sliver of hope her fans may have been holding out that Wendy would one day return to the public eye now seems to be completely nixed. Ugh.
Sending so much love to the daytime television icon right now, along with her family members, friends, and other loved ones.
