Karen Huger had one hell of a year. The Real Housewives of Potomac star prided herself on her virtues and morals. But in March 2024, she found herself and her car in quite a predicament. With Season 9 coming to a close, Karen has maintained a stoic approach to her legal issues, but is it time for her to hang up her Potomac hat?
Karen Huger needs to reevaluate her choices
Bravo reenacted Karen’s car crash during the Real Housewives of Potomac Season 9 premiere. Viewers learned that she had been charged and found guilty of five out of six charges, including the lead charge of driving under the influence (DUI). The Real Housewives of Potomac star was also found guilty of negligent driving, failure to control speed to avoid a collision, and failure to notify authorities of an address change. The mother of two was acquitted of reckless driving. Karen is awaiting sentencing on January 29, 2025. So far, Karen has kept her opinions to herself when asked about her legal case, which has been hard to watch during the newest episodes.
After the two-day trial, Karen’s lawyer released a statement via People telling the outlet, “Although we are disappointed in the jury’s verdict, we, of course, respect their decision and appreciate their time hearing our case.” The stress has been hard on the 61-year-old, who admitted to her co-star, Gizelle Bryant, that she hadn’t been eating or sleeping well. The season finale will show Karen attending her trial, still positive she will be vindicated. But the bodycam footage told another story.
Karen Huger skipped the Real Housewives of Potomac reunion
At the start of the New Year, Bravo released the seating chart for the Real Housewives of Potomac reunion. And noticeably missing was the Grande Dame herself. It was later reported that Karen had chosen not to attend to check herself into a rehab program. Ryan Tresdale, Karen’s manager, told Bravo’s Daily Dish, “Karen made the important decision to enter a private recovery program, so was unable to attend the reunion taping today.” The statement continued “She was fully supported in this choice. We stand behind Karen as she embarks on this meaningful journey and are proud of her for taking such a significant step forward in her personal growth.”
It can’t be sugar-coated that Karen broke the law. However, it is important to acknowledge that she is doing the right thing by asking for help. The Bravoleb clearly needs time to recover mentally and physically from her trauma. Checking into a program is the perfect place for Karen to take time for herself away from the cameras. She no longer has to put on a facade. And can get to the root of her grief after having lost both her parents in such a short period. Karen could choose to step aside to make a triumphant return when she is healed and feeling better.
It’s okay if Karen Huger wants to leave RHOP
It seems most of her Real Housewives of Potomac co-stars are hoping she makes a return to the series. Wendy Osefo spoke with Page Six’s Virtual Reali-Tea about her friend. She has been a ride-or-die for the Grande Dame since day one. The good doctor shared, “I’m happy that she decided to focus on herself and get the help that she needs. The 40-year-old added, “And I think whether she comes back for another season is solely dependent on whether she’s ready to.” As fans know, Real Housewives rarely return to their respective franchises after missing a reunion.
But Karen could be the exception to the rule. It takes a lot of courage to admit you have a problem. And even though it took time for the evidence to play out in court, Karen has accepted responsibility. If she does make a comeback, I’d like to see a more humble Karen who is passionate about helping others in the same position. However, if she does want to hang up her hat-ittude and say goodbye to the Bravoverse, that is okay too. Karen must focus on making herself happy and realize fame is fleeting. But health and safety are lifelong.
