NewJeans has issued a bold ultimatum to their agency, ADOR: fix “major contract violations” by November 27 or face the termination of their exclusive contracts. So, what did they demand exactly and what could this mean for NewJeans if its not met?
Keep reading for everything we know:
NewJeans Demand for Min Hee-jin
One of their demands was the reinstatement of Min Hee-jin as CEO. However, Min resigned as an internal director of ADOR on November 20. According to The Korea Times, she is also severing ties with HYBE, ADOR’s parent company, and is prepared to “take all necessary legal actions” against HYBE and its affiliates.
“For over seven months, I have endured a nightmarish dispute with HYBE, which began with their illegal audit in April,” Min stated in a press release on November 20. “I have made every effort to honor the shareholders’ agreement and restore ADOR to its former state before April. However, HYBE’s refusal to acknowledge their wrongdoing and their unyielding stance left me no choice but to conclude that further efforts would be a waste of time.”
Will NewJeans Reunite with Min Hee-jin?
As tensions rise, the possibility of NewJeans reuniting with Min Hee-jin—who was a key creative force behind the group—has become a major topic of discussion. However, industry experts believe it may be difficult due to the substantial financial penalties tied to ending their contracts.
Adding to the controversy, a KakaoTalk chat from March between Min and two former ADOR executives was leaked by Chosun.con on Sunday. In it, they discussed the financial penalties NewJeans would face for terminating their contracts with ADOR.
Has ADOR Responded to NewJeans Demands Yet?
In response to NewJeans’ ultimatum, ADOR released a statement addressing a separate incident involving member Hanni and Belift Lab, another HYBE subsidiary. On November 27, ADOR declared its support for Hanni, refuting Belift Lab’s earlier denial of an incident where an ILLIT manager allegedly said, “ignore” or “pass by ignoring.”
ADOR stated: “Hello, this is ADOR. On October 7, 2024, Belift Lab released a statement through their Belift Lab X account regarding the ‘manager ignore remark.’ ADOR has maintained a careful approach to avoid unnecessary controversies surrounding our artists. However, the issue remains unresolved, and we are now expressing our stance.”
The statement continued: “Belift Lab’s claim differs entirely from Hanni’s testimony. Hanni clearly recalls an ILLIT manager overseeing protocol saying, ‘ignore’ or ‘pass by ignoring,’ on May 27, 2024. The incident happened quickly, and it is unreasonable to expect the victim to recall every detail to raise the issue.”
