Woman Delays Breaking Up With Boyfriend Because She Owes Money

A woman on Reddit has decided to stay with her boyfriend for a surprising reason, despite wanting desperately to break up with him.

"Alright, here’s the deal. I’ve been with my boyfriend for like a year now, but honestly, things have been going downhill for a while. We’re constantly fighting, the vibe is totally off, and it’s just not what it used to be. I’ve already made up my mind that I wanna end things, but there’s one thing stopping me," she began.

The woman revealed that due to an urgent matter in her life, she was recently forced to borrow "a chunk of money" from her boyfriend. While she promised she'd return the money, she does not yet have the funds to pay him back.

"I told him I’d pay it back, but right now, I’m kinda broke and can’t give it all back yet. And it feels super shady to just dump him while I’m still in debt to him, like he might think I was using him or just peace-ing out to avoid paying," she shared.

The woman is now conflicted about whether or not she should wait to break up until after she pays back her boyfriend.

"But, on the flip side, sticking around just because of the money feels wrong too. I’m over the relationship and just wanna move on, but I feel like breaking up now would make me look like a total jerk," she concluded.

"You can break up and still pay him back, just make it clear that you will do so when you go," one person wrote.
