Zendaya and Tom Holland may keep their relationship private for the most part, but the Emmy-winning actress briefly opened up about what it’s like working with her real-life partner onscreen.
In her Vanity Fair profile for its Hollywood issue, the Euphoria star was asked if it’s ever weird working opposite Holland.
“It’s actually strangely comfortable,” she told the publication. “It’s like second nature, if anything. You feel extra safe with the person you’re acting beside. I love working with him. He’s so talented, and so passionate about what he does.”
She continued, “He always gives things one thousand percent, even if he’s absolutely worn down. I really appreciate that about him. It feels pretty normal. That’s how we met. Literally, at a chemistry read.”
Zendaya and Holland met ahead of filming Spider-Man: Homecoming and are set to co-star in Christopher Nolan’s upcoming untitled feature, alongside Matt Damon, Anne Hathaway and Lupita Nyong’o.
Elsewhere in the profile, the Challengers star also spoke about the upcoming season of Euphoria, which is set to begin production in January. While she noted she hasn’t yet read a script for season three, she’s excited to see what the future of the Emmy-winning series is.
“I don’t really have much of an answer except for right now it’s set to start shooting in January,” she said when asked where she stands with the show and Sam Levinson. “My most important thing is to do justice by the people who love and care about Rue and make sure that she’s looked after as a character. I think that’s my number one duty.”
Euphoria season three was delayed earlier this year. Sources told The Hollywood Reporter that there were multiple factors at play in HBO’s decision to delay production on the drama, which also stars Sydney Sweeney, Jacob Elordi, Hunter Schafer, Maude Apatow and more.
Sources explained that the network was having conversations with Levinson behind the scenes about where the show would go after the characters left high school since he plans to feature a time jump between the end of season two and the beginning of season three.
When Zendaya returns to set, it will have been two years since season two was released and three years since filming had begun on it.
“I’ve been waiting,” the Dune: Part Two star said. “I’m actually going to start filming a project soon before Euphoria, and I’m like, ‘Man, I’m rusty. I haven’t been on a set in, like, two years almost. I’m a little bit terrified. I’m like, Can I even do this anymore? I don’t know.'”
However, the actress did note that she gets that feeling every time she goes on a new project.
“You’re always like, ‘What am I even doing?’ On that first day on set, you’re like, ‘I was terrible. I was shit. Everyone hates me. I’m going to get fired tomorrow.’ And when the director’s like, ‘You did a great job,’ you’re like, ‘You’re lying. You’re actually lying to me.'”
