1000-Lb. Sisters star Tammy Slaton faced a setback in her weight loss journey when she learned that she wasn’t able to get skin removal surgery.
“Tammy is not currently a candidate for skin removal surgery because she’s only about 13 or 14 months out from her weight loss surgery,” Dr. Brad Turner said in a clip shared via TLC’s Instagram account on Thursday, November 14. “At this point, she should probably continue to lose weight over the next six months to a year, get to her goal weight and then we can reapproach the topic with her.”
The update comes after Dr. Eric Smith recommended that Tammy, 38, consider getting skin removal surgery after she weighed in at 303 pounds during an appointment featured on the October 15 episode.
While Tammy was clearly frustrated with Turner’s news, he encouraged her to not give up hope amid her weight loss journey.
“I’m gonna let Dr. Smith’s work keep on doing its job, OK?” he added. “I’m definitely not telling you, ‘No.’ I’m just telling you, ‘Not tomorrow.’”
Shortly after the clip was uploaded, several fans rushed to the comments section to encourage Tammy to stay positive. “Hang in there Tammy. You went through absolute hell and the light is starting to shine in that long tunnel. You are doing great. I am in awe of you,” one social media user commented. Another chimed in, “Tammy you have come so far and you are winning. Keep up the work and get your surgery next year. You got this.”
“It must be so hard to exercise with all that excess skin. She had her hopes to have the surgery. She lost the weight and I can understand her frustration,” a third empathetic fan commented. “He should of examined first then say that to her.”
Fans have watched Tammy’s weight loss journey ever since she made her reality TV debut in 2020. The reality star – who weighed 725 pounds at her heaviest – dropped down to 285 pounds in December 2023, and she revealed that she had lost a total of 500 pounds throughout her weight loss journey in August.
During the Wednesday, November 13, episode, Tammy celebrated another milestone in her journey by revealing that she was down to 281.2 pounds.
“I’ll be goddamned. Congratulations, that’s good!” Tammy’s brother, Chris Combs, told her after they learned that she lost 20 pounds since her last weigh-in.
Tammy also reflected on the exciting news in a confessional. “Chris said he weighs 284. I now weigh a little less than Chris. That’s mind-blowing. I think the last time I weighed 281, I was in fourth or fifth grade,” she told the camera. “I’m the baby sister, but I’m not the ‘big’ baby sister [anymore].”
Back during her conversation with Chris, 44, Tammy asked how she was “lighter” than him. “You’re supposed to be lighter than me,” he responded, and Tammy jokingly asked, “‘Cause I’m short?”
Chris went on to praise Tammy and said that he was “ecstatic” for her. “Did I ever think I’d see the day that she was smaller than me? Well, no, probably not, because I never thought about her being smaller than me,” he said.
