Dior Capture Totale Retishot
Retinol is still one of the most research-backed ingredients around for antiaging and skin perfecting, but researchers are developing new ways to amplify its effects. Dior has upped the ante in two ways with this new overnight treatment—a “derma shot” inspired by the popularity of Botox and filler (following its other recently released derma shot, the wrinkle-plumping Capture Totale Hyalushot). Drawing upon the brand’s two decades of research into stem cells in aging, it pairs 0.1% concentrated retinol with a proprietary ingredient derived from a tropical flower, longoza, which acts as an antioxidant and also supports stem cells. “Our researchers have discovered that the combination of retinol with multifermented longoza, which acts on the anchoring of stem cells, increases the beneficial effects of retinol on six criteria for skin quality: imperfections, unevenness, dullness, marks, pore visibility, and roughness,” explains Virginie Couturaud, Dior’s scientific communication director in Paris. To protect these active ingredients from light and air, which can reduce their effectiveness, the product is housed in a unique triple-chambered tube (which plays into the “shot” concept). Our tester reports that Retishot is gentle and feels luxurious to use, especially by retinol standards. “This actually makes my skin feel moisturized, not dry or sensitive, and it has this subtle but lovely scent that makes it feel like more of a treat than a treatment,” she says. “It dispenses precisely thanks to the tiny-tipped tube and spreads smoothly, so a little goes a long way. My skin texture looked better in a matter of days, so I can’t wait to see how it’ll look in a few months.”
