He concocts a plan to get inside a luxury brothel he knows Rana frequents and take a menial job to get as close as he can to achieving his mission. But things don’t quite go as planned, and Kid ends up having a transformative experience that sets him on a path with a greater purpose.

The action thriller delivers yet another gripping performance from Patel, who earned an Academy Award nomination for his role in the 2016 drama Lion. “Dev Patel goes bananas with his behind-the-camera debut,” writes Decider’s John Serba in his review, “and the result is a bracing and effective action picture.”

Ride On (2023)

RIDE ON Trailer (2023) Jackie Chan

There’s a reason Jackie Chan has had such an enduring career that has spanned more than 60 years. At age 70, he is still going strong and is widely regarded as one of the most iconic martial artists in movie history. In this action comedy drama, he stars as Lao Luo, an old-school stunt performer who frequently works with his stunt horse, Red Hare.

Deformed at birth, Red Hare was saved by Lao from being put down, and the two have been inseparable ever since. Now with Lao’s life in shambles following an injury and bankruptcy, he finds himself fighting to keep the one true friend he has and to reconnect with his estranged daughter Xiao Bao (Liu Haocun).

In Mandarin with English subtitles, Ride On isn’t your usual Chan movie, but he still shows off his comedic chops and incredible fighting and stunt skills. Daniel M. Kimmel of North Shore Movies opines that the movie is a solid “tribute to the stuntman [Chan] was and those he’s worked with … an entertaining and heartfelt effort.” If you’re a fan of Chan’s work, you’ll delight in this movie. See him train a horse instead of a human before checking him out in his next project, Karate Kid: Legends.
