Brothers (2024)
Brothers Trailer #1 (2024)
Josh Brolin, Peter Dinklage, Glenn Close, Marisa Tomei, and Brendan Fraser star in this action comedy that’s a wonderful hidden gem on Amazon Prime Video. In a weird, darker twist on Twins, Mike or “Moke” (Brolin) and Jady (Dinklage) are twin brothers who also happen to be criminals, thanks to growing up in a crime family. Trying to get their life together, Moke with a wife and upcoming baby and Jady out of prison, this also includes reconciling with other estranged mother, not to mention one another. But that proves easier said than done. Despite their desire to go clean, however, the pair end up back in the world of crime when they join forces to complete a dangerous heist.
Brothers might not live up to other action comedy heist movies, but it’s a solid entry in the genre with a cast that nails their roles. Jayne Nelson of Radio Times singles out Fraser’s “deranged performance” as a highlight of the movie and Deadline Hollywood Daily’s Pete Hammond opines that the movie works largely because of the “exceptionally well-chosen cast of A-list actors working against type.”

IF (2024)
IF | Final Trailer (2024 Movie) - Ryan Reynolds, John Krasinski, Steve Carell
Ryan Reynolds might be on top of the world with Deadpool & Wolverine, but the fantasy comedy drama movie IF in which he stars didn’t receive the same type of reception. This, however, doesn’t mean you shouldn’t give it a go. Directed and written by John Krasinski, IF is about 12-year-old Bea (Cailey Fleming from The Walking Dead) who happens upon a man named Cal (Reynolds) who is accompanied by various creatures, including a large furry one named Blue.
Bea, who has been struggling with the loss of her mother and waiting for her father to emerge from heart surgery, is told that Cal works with imaginary friends (“IFs”) to help them find new children once they have been forgotten by their old human friends.
The pair embark on an adorable adventure together, looking to introduce imaginary friends to new potential human children who need them. IF was much better received by fans than critics, many of the latter of whom didn’t appreciate the sweetness of the story and felt it didn’t stand out compared to other movies like it. Billie Melissa of Men’s Journal, however, is one critic who loved it, praising the movie as a “heartwarming tearjerker that…asks you to reconnect with who you are.”

What Still Remains (2018)
WHAT STILL REMAINS Official Trailer
Lost in a sea of post-apocalyptic thrillers, What Still Remains is a gripping movie about a viral pandemic that causes humans to become feral. Set 25 years after a mysterious outbreak, Anna (Lulu Antariksa) and her brother David (Roshon Fegan) are struggling to survive and protect their sick mother when tragedy strikes. Left to fend for herself, Anna meets a man named Peter (Colin O’Donoghue) who invites her to join his religious commune. But she discovers this place offers anything but solace.
What Still Remains offers an interesting twist to the story with people known as Berserkers, pagans who believe the plague was a sign from God and act as though they are infected when they aren’t. Critics have praised the movie while audiences have been divided. “If you’re looking for a hidden gem this holiday season,” Decider’s Joe Reid says, “you may have found it.”
