Content Warning … Self-harm, animal abuse:
Police responded to an incident involving a pet at Leida and Eric Rosenbrook’s residence on January 24. Leida allegedly threatened to harm herself and told a police officer she was pregnant when speaking about her medical history.
“Deputy Luther asked Leida if she had any medical conditions. Leida informed him she had PTSD, anxiety, OCD, and depression, all of which she states she takes medication for,” the police report stated. “Leida also informed Deputy Luther that she is six months pregnant.”
The crimes:
A pregnant “Leida was arrested and charged with one misdemeanor count of intentionally mistreating animals, one misdemeanor count of disorderly conduct (use of a dangerous weapon with a domestic abuse assessment) and one felony count of bail jumping. She was held at the Adams County, Wisconsin, jail until her Monday, January 27, court date, where a judge set her bail at $1,000 during the video hearing.”
“A restraining order was also placed against Leida.” Eric, however, “waived the restraining order on the same day.” He “may waive the no contact provision by filing written permission for said contact.”
After her arrest, Leida accused her husband of domestic abuse. “MY HUSBAND PHYSICALLY ABUSED ME. I WON’T BE SILENT ANYMORE. ENOUGH IS ENOUGH,” Leida posted to her Instagram Stories with a photo of herself with what appeared to be a bruise above her eye. “I LET EVERYBODY KNOW WHY I FILED FOR A DIVORCE BACK IN 2024. I WON’T BE SILENCED ANYMORE. ENOUGH IS ENOUGH.”
Eric’s side of the story:
Eric told In Touch that Leida’s version of the events was incomplete. “What she has posted is not the whole story.”
The events happened on January 24. It began after their dog, Abba, had an accident on the carpet at around 7 p.m. As Eric cleaned the mess, the puppy ran through it. That “pushed” Leida into a “rage.” Eric put the dog in his crate, but Leida came downstairs with a laptop” to hurt the animal.
Eric explained, “I do not know why she chose that but insisted she’d hit him with it. I refused to allow it, so she went back upstairs and returned with a laptop and knife. She insisted hit him with the laptop or she will inflict harm upon herself.
Leida “stumbled as she lost her footing at the same time. This caused her to flail her arms at the same time she dropped the dog. The resulting motions are what I perceived as choking him and slamming him to the ground,” he detailed.
Eric noted, “I did not recall hitting her, but she says I did. In my anger, I must have because she has a shiner. I admit that. She said she was going to call the cops, so I called them for her.”
Deputies determined he acted in “defense of an animal.” They also informed him they planned to take Leida to the hospital to get checked out, as she was “21 weeks pregnant,” before transporting her to the county jail.
