90 Day Fiancé star Loren Brovarnik was slammed for dressing up as a doormat for Halloween after she compared the costume to being a mother.
Loren, 36, took to Instagram on Thursday, October 31, to share two photos of her Halloween costume, which included a doormat hung around her that featured footprints and read,
“Welcome.”
“Them: What are you for Halloween?? Me: A doormat – I mean a mom of 3 toddlers,” she captioned the snapshot, alongside several hashtags including “mom life” and “funny.”
Shortly after Loren shared the photo, several fans rushed to the comments section to slam the costume. “Imagine being your child and growing up and seeing this? Yikes,” one person commented, while another social media user accused her of “always” playing the “victim.”
“That’s depressing as heck. She says/does little things that make her look really unhappy with her life,” a third person added. Another person wondered, “Does this mean you feel like a doormat? That is what people are going to think …”
The backlash continued as an additional person commented, “Being a doormat has a negative implication. Victim again.”
However, others defended Loren and insisted that the costume was all in good fun. “Oh, for Pete’s sake… it’s JUST a costume! I appreciate your humor, @lorenbrovarnik!” one person commented, which led the TLC personality to respond, “Thank you!!!! All these stiffers over here.”
“For those of you ‘followers’ who don’t get the humor … move along … YOU keep being YOU Loren! Stay the strong woman you are; ignore the useless unsupportive hatred comments,” another supportive commenter wrote, and someone else added, “It’s a funny Halloween costume. Mom’s do get walked all over. Lauren is all about her family. She’s not playing the victim. She’s being funny and creative.”
Loren shares kids Shai, Asher and Ariel with husband Alexei Brovarnik. While she’s been known to make light out of some of the harder parts of parenthood, she has also defended her children against critics in the past.
In September, Loren clapped back at a troll who harshly “body shamed” her three children after she posted a family photo.
“Those kids are getting so big. Watch all the junk food, it’s hard to lose it and the two of you are so cute. Let’s keep your kids healthy [or] they might end up like all of your parents, a little chubby,” the social media user wrote under a post shared on September 30. “If you were all chubby, that would be different but you two are the beautiful people, keep their chance to be too! It’s hard to lose.”
Loren made it clear she didn’t tolerate the hateful comment and shared the exchange via their Instagram Stories. “Whoa whoa whoa — are you body shaming my 4, 3 and 2 year old? You want to body shame me, fine! I know I put my life out for everyone to see, publicly,” she responded. “But respectfully, my children and their body should be off limits to speak out. Alex and I are their parents, not you. We know what’s best for them. Thanks.”
