Andy Cohen apologized for his “mean” comment 14 years ago about The Hills’ Heidi Montag – days after her husband Spencer Pratt slammed him for it on social media. The Watch What Happens Live host claimed it was a “different universe” when he made the comment, and “we did and said [things] on TV” that “we wouldn’t do now.” Meanwhile, Spencer addressed the past insult.
Fourteen years ago on WWHL, Andy slammed Heidi’s claim that she was in talks to potentially join Real Housewives of Beverly Hills. Andy called her trash and noted that he’d rather stab his own eyes than see her on the network.
A few days ago, Spencer said he’d never go on Watch What Happens Live given Andy’s past insult.
On a recent episode of SiriusXM’s Andy Cohen Live, Andy revealed his reaction to Spencer’s recent comment.
“I was like … What happened? What did I do?” said Andy. “[Then] I remembered that I had said … something on Watch What Happens Live years ago.”
“Then I realized that I did apologize for this on Andy Cohen Live several years ago. I apologized,” he continued. “So what I will say also is that was mean. That was 14 years ago, and I, what I really don’t like about it is referring to her as trash … and I’m really sorry about that. So I apologize again, I guess.”
He suggested the climate was different at the time.
“There were things that we said and did on TV 14 years ago that we wouldn’t do now,” said Andy. “It just was a different universe, but … I’m not trying to justify it.”
Andy joked that maybe he’ll apologize for it “every three years.”
Around the same time, Spencer praised a fan on X who shared a clip of Andy’s past insult.
“Thank you for this video! He called my wife trash! Wow,” said Spencer. “If he wants to ever link up off camera I’m available.”
