Fans have wondered what happened between former One Tree Hill costars Bethany Joy Lenz and Hilarie Burton Morgan, as rumors of a feud spread between the former friends.
What Has Bethany Joy Lenz Said About Her Rumored Feud With Hilarie Burton Morgan?
“I love Hilarie. I have always and will always and I don’t have any problem with her,” Bethany confessed during the October 16, 2024, “Call Her Daddy” podcast episode, although she did reveal the two had issues.
“There have been some bizarre misunderstandings that I really hope we can figure out one day, but I love that girl,” she added.

When Bethany announced her memoir, Dinner for Vampires: Life on a Cult TV Show While Also in an Actual Cult on February 29, 2024, some believed Hilarie threw shade at her.
“Dinner for Vampires, my memoir about the decade I spent in an abusive, high-demand group (aka, cult) is on presale now,” Bethany began.
She added, “Being a writer has been a great, private joy in my life since I was about 12. This isn’t the first book I thought I’d write, publicly, but as difficult as this subject matter is to untangle, I’m grateful I get to share my story, my way. It’s a story of forgiveness and a roadmap to how manipulation works, with heartache and humor along the way. We all make mistakes and I hope Dinner for Vampires reminds you that, no matter what weird roads you’ve gone down, you’re not alone.”
Later that day, Hilarie posted a quote from Pink to both her X account and Instagram Stories which read, “I don’t think imitation is the highest form of flattery. I think it’s annoying.” Some fans took to social media to speculate it was in reference to Hilarie releasing her own memoir, Grimoire Girl: A Memoir of Magic and Mischief, in October 2023. Fans also speculated it could have been because Bethany’s cover bore a strong resemblance to Hilarie’s book.
At the time of Hilarie’s post, she and Bethany weren’t following each other on Instagram and still aren’t as of October 2024. It’s unclear, though, if and when the two did follow each other.
Hilarie Burton Morgan Quit the ‘Drama Queens’ Podcast Featuring Bethany Joy Lenz
Bethany, Hilarie and their One Tree Hill costar Sophia Bush started the “Drama Queens” podcast together in June 2021, where the ladies rewatched episodes of the series and provided behind-the-scenes commentary.
Hilarie announced during the July 8, 2024, episode of the podcast that she would be making her exit. However, she had a good reason.
“We have reached the end of my behind-the-scenes experience on the show, and so I really started to question what I brought to this, but also how we keep that storytelling alive and important,” she told listeners “And so as we head into seasons seven through nine, it was important that we introduced a new queen who could take over for me.”
Hilarie left One Tree Hill at the end of season 6, when her character, Peyton Sawyer, and Chad Michael Murray’s Lucas Scott left town with their newborn baby. Robert Buckley, who joined the show in season 7 as sports agent Clay Evans, took over Hilarie’s podcast spot.
