The Repair Shop's Dominic Chinea on 'awesome' discovery in new series

Dominic Chinea is a much-loved member of the expert team on BBC’s beloved programme, The Repair Shop.

The skilled metalwork maestro has helped to restore damaged and broken family heirlooms since his debut in 2017.

He has also amassed a legion of fans who are often moved to tears by the repairs on the heartwarming and award-winning show.

As viewers continue to tune into season 13, Dominic announced a major new project and has released a book, Machines A Visual History: 100 Machines and the Remarkable Stories Behind Each Invention.

The illustrated book is a visual exploration of 100 incredible machines, each with its place in history and fascinating stories behind it.

Dominic details why he has chosen each machine and shares his own experiences of repairing them if one has landed in his workshop or in The Repair Shop.

The book also features a heritage craft chapter which explores a wheeling machine that is particularly special to the TV star.

He reflected on the moment when he unsuccessfully tried to find a Ranalah wheeling machine and therefore trawled through a historic paper trail to eventually buy Ranalah Limited three years ago.

Consequently, Dominic began the complicated process of producing the machines again with the goal of teaching younger people the craft.

The craftsman’s latest book connects the inventions of the past to the work and functions that continue to be part of everyday life.

Dominic also recounts how each invention was developed, his narrative accompanied by original detailed line drawings and archive advertisements.

This comes as the expert revealed he was uncertain about the future of The Repair Shop. When asked about his own future on the show, he admitted, “I wish I knew.”

Dominic told GB News: “I hope I can carry on doing it for as long as possible because every series we get to work on, we're fixing things and making people's days.

“Every item we get to repair means so much to the people that own it. It's a pleasure, and I just hope we can carry on.”
