Late Tuesday night, the news broke that the Los Angeles Dodgers signed two-time Cy Young winner Blake Snell to a five-year deal. This news has left the rest of the league scrambling to figure out how it's going to compete with the loaded roster in Los Angeles.
Besides Snell and Yusei Kikuchi, who came off the board earlier this week, there is a lot of talent left in the starting pitching pool. Multiple World Series champions and a load of All-Stars still wait to be signed.
MLB Network's Jon Morosi has indicated the Atlanta Braves and Baltimore Orioles are showing interest in a World Series hero.
"The Orioles and Braves are among the teams with interest in free agent Nathan Eovaldi," Morosi wrote.
Eovaldi is a two-time World Series champion with a career ERA of 4.07. He won the World Series in 2018 with the Boston Red Sox and then in 2023 with the Rangers. The righty holds a 3.05 career postseason ERA in 79 2/3 innings.
He's long been one of my more underrated pitchers this winter, mostly because a lot of the media expected him to sign back with the Rangers without a fight at all.
With the amount of money being thrown around, it's hard to imagine that the right-hander won't explore his other options, especially with two big-time contending teams, the Orioles and Braves, showing significant interest in him.
If anything, this will just spark a mini-bidding war that will drive his price up a few million dollars.
