Ever since Brie Larson brought the beloved fictional role of chemist turned culinary extraordinary Elizabeth Zott to life in the 2023 limited series Lessons In Chemistry, the star has injected a 1960s sensibility into her personal style. Now, the Academy Award-winning actress has taken her adoration for the decade one step further by undergoing her boldest beauty transformation yet.

Overnight, the 35-year-old cut off her signature blonde locks and styled her tresses into a black pixie cut reminiscent of Audrey Hepburn’s iconic look from her breakout role in 1953’s Roman Holiday. As rumours of a Hepburn biopic swirl around Hollywood, we wouldn’t blame you for believing Larson’s reason for the chop was to convince casting agents to select her for the role. This isn’t the case at all—though we’d contend the Captain Marvel actress would make an excellent Holly Golightly—but the purpose of the crop does actually have something to do with an upcoming part.

“Elektra is here,” Larson captioned her Instagram post, referring to her character’s name in the play of the same title. Leading a contemporary rendition of the famous Greek tragedy by Sophocles, Larson will make her West End debut in the major revival.

“Elektra, haunted by her father’s assassination, is consumed by grief; a need for survival; and a thirst for vengeance,” reads the official log line. “When her long lost brother Orestes at last returns, she urges him to a savage and terrifying conclusion but at what cost?”

The play will run for a limited season in the UK, picking up in Brighton in January before moving to London. Larson will appear alongside iconic actress and theatre veteran Stockhard Channing, who you’ll recognise as Rizzo from Grease, in the production.

As we also recently saw Elle Fanning sticker her arms with tens of fake tattoos for a Broadway version of Branden Jacobs-Jenkins’ Appropriate and Kaia Gerber is set to make her stage debut in a small Los Angeles production of Will Arbery’s Evanston Salt Costs Climbing, could A-listers’ beauty rituals be the new gateway to theatre?
