Britney Spears sparks serious concern with birthday video as fans reach out

Singer Britney Spears celebrated her birthday this week.

The special occasion on Monday was marked with a series of videos shared with Britney's fans on Instagram recently. It comes following reports that the Grammy Award winner had flown out to Mexico with some pals for her birthday.

Britney appeared to address photos that have circulated of her boarding a plane in Los Angeles earlier this week in one video. She was heard saying in the clip: "I'm not really sure why the paparazzi have me going on a plane looking like I'm wearing a Jason [Voorhees] mask. It doesn't even look like me. I don't know why I have a torch in my hand, honestly - I think my friend accidentally gave that to me."

Addressing her birthday in the same video, and seemingly knocking a year off her age, Britney, who is thought to have turned 43 this year, teased: "Anyways, it's my birthday. I'm not turning 42 - I'm turning five this year. I'm turning five years old and ... I have to go to kindergarten tomorrow."

Fans have reacted to the video message on social media this week. Some people wondered if the footage was actually old, though it's also been suggested that the apparent references to paparazzi photos believed to have been taken earlier this week suggests that it's new.

One fan wrote: "She mentioned 42 ... [I know] she posted this today but is this old? What pap photo was she talking about?" Another suggested: "I think it's old." Someone commented: "There were paps pictures taken today."

Others expressed concern. One fan tweeted: "[It's] sad, she don't know her age." Another said: "[Britney] just said she's turning 5 years old and she's going to kindergarten. My poor girl needs some help." Someone said: "[Britney] says she's turning 5 years old today and is starting kindergarten tomorrow. Someone please help her." Among other concerned tweets was one that read: "She needs help."

However, addressing the latter comment, someone reacted on X: "Girl hush, it's just playful fun." They weren't alone in defending Britney and suggesting that she was just teasing, with someone else writing: "She loves fkin with us and I love that she does." Whilst others complimented her, with one fan writing: "Cute and gorgeous. We love you, Brit!"

The post on Britney's account also included footage of a minature birthday cake topped with strawberries and encased in a chocolate lattice. She was hearding describing the dessert - which had "happy birthday" written on one side - as a "very, very cute" cake for the celebration.

She later suggested that the paparazzi have "always been incredibly cruel" to her in a subsequent video message on Instagram. She said: "They have always been incredibly cruel to me ... the paparazzi, in pictures and the way they have illustrated me. Some of it ... I know I'm not perfect at all, by any means ... but some of it is extremely mean."

Britney is thought to have jetted off with pals for birthday celebrations this week. A source told People magazine: "Britney treated herself to a fun vacation for her birthday. She loves Mexico and can't wait to celebrate in the sun." The source said that she "jetted off to Mexico with friends".

There was an outpouring of tributes to Britney from fans for her birthday this week. One post read: "Happy 43rd birthday to the iconic, the legendary, the princess of pop." Another fan said: "Happy birthday to THE princess of pop. Words can never thank you enough, for just being you."
