Gypsy, starring Audra McDonald, got off to a big start on Broadway, bringing in $770,349 in its first three preview performances last week.

The revival, directed by George C. Wolfe, is the first show to play the Majestic Theatre since the closure of The Phantom of the Opera and since the theater has been renovated. The musical, which also stars Joy Woods and Danny Burstein, played to more than 100 percent capacity last week, and is scheduled to open Dec. 19.

As the movie adaptation of Wicked breaks records, the Broadway musical continues to stay on top of the industry charts, as the highest grossing show of the week with $2.56 million and playing to 100 percent capacity. The Lion King ($2 million), Hamilton ($1.98 million), Sunset Blvd. ($1.87 million) and McNeal ($1.44 million), starring Robert Downey Jr. rounded out the top five.

New musical Maybe Happy Ending continues to grow its box office tally, after opening to raves a few weeks ago. The show, starring Darren Criss and Helen J. Shen, brought in $591,4123 across eight performances at the Belasco Theatre, up a little more than $130,000 from the prior week – though capacity fell to 78 percent.

Meanwhile, new musical Tammy Faye, which features songs by Elton John, played to only 40 percent capacity last week – its lowest capacity yet –  as the production also announced it would be closing Dec. 8. The musical, which opened at the Palace Theatre on Nov. 14, brought it $317,913, which is its lowest tally for a full week of performances.

Oh, Mary! broke its own box office record for the ninth time, when it brought in just above $1.2 million, with an average ticket price of $171.32. The play, starring and written by Cole Escola, announced Monday that it had recouped its $4.5 million Broadway capitalization.

Escola is one of the Broadway performers scheduled to appear as part of the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade on NBC, which is one of the biggest marketing opportunities of the year for the industry. The Outsiders, Hell’s Kitchen, Death Becomes Her are also expected to perform on the telecast, in addition to appearances from Chicago‘s Ariana Madix and Sebastián Yatra and Charli D’Amelio, who recently joined &Juliet.
