The National Weather Service (NWS) said it expects minimum temperatures to drop below freezing across most of California's San Joaquin Valley Thursday morning, and temperatures below 32 degrees are expected in many of the surrounding areas.

An NWS forecast map illustrating which parts of the area had the highest probability of low temperatures below 32 degrees this morning showed that among the areas, the greatest chances including 62 percent for Chowchilla and 50 percent for Tranquility.
There was also a 47 percent chance for Firebaugh and a 41 percent chance for Merced. To the southwest, there was a 100 percent chance around the California Valley, the map showed.
There was an 87 percent chance around San Miguel, a 75 percent chance around Atascadero, and a 68 percent chance around Lost Hills.
The San Joaquin Valley area was under a freeze warning from the NWS early Thursday morning, the service warning that subfreezing temperatures as low as 30 degrees were expected.
Freeze warnings are issued when "significant, widespread freezing temperatures are expected," while a frost advisory "means areas of frost are expected or occurring, posing a threat to sensitive vegetation," the NWS says.
A freeze warning had been in place for multiple Californian counties yesterday.
Parts of California were also under other winter weather warnings from the NWS early Thursday, including a winter storm warning in Northwest California, and winter weather advisories for some of the state's most northern counties.
Heavy snow was expected with total snow accumulations up to between five and eight inches on portions of Highway 3 between Weaverville and Trinity Center, with over a foot possible at Scott Mountain Pass, the NWS for Eureka said.
